LOREAUVILLE — According to Loreauville head coach Trent Delahoussaye, Dillon Anthony just wanted to play football at the next level.

To that end, he and assistant coach Rhett Peltier started the process of sending out copies of Anthony’s game highlights last season to every college they could find or think of, hoping to get a response.

They did.

Coaches at West Virginia State University in Institute, West Virginia, a Division II school with an enrollment of about 7,000 students, saw the film of Anthony, got in contact with the school and as a result, Anthony is now headed to the school as he signed a scholarship Monday.

“We worked real hard trying to get him a scholarship,” said Delahoussaye. “We knew that he was good enough in our eyes and we just had to get his film out there.

“Coach Peltier went on line and talked to a bunch of coaches and put his film out there and we got him noticed in West Virginia. The coaches liked what he saw, he got his ACT scores in and the coaches faxed the papers. It wasn’t real hard at all.”

Delahoussaye said that Anthony just wanted to play football and that anybody who would have offered him he would have signed.

It didn’t take long for LHS graduate to go with the Yellow Jackets.

“It was a good school,” said Anthony who admits that he didn’t visit the school and didn’t get any other offers. “I was looking for a place to go to school and get a chance to play. I jumped on it as fast as I could.”

Anthony checked out the school on its website and knew that it would be a good place for him.

At WVSU, Anthony is expected to be a running back in the schools’ spread offense.

“I really not used to the spread so there will be an adjustment,” said Anthony, who wants to study physical therapy.

Delahoussaye did his best in preparing Anthony for what will be a different climate than he is used to down in South Louisiana.

“I told him the weather situation because it’s different up there,” said Delahoussaye. “But all he wanted to do was play football. It didn’t matter where it was.

Delahoussaye said that the coaches as WVSU watched the tapes and while they didn’t interview Anthony, what they saw on tape was enough to make the offer. The LHS coach also said that while it won’t be a starting position, the coaches at West Virginia State University will give Anthony every chance to earn the starting spot.

“And if I know Dillon, he’ll do everything he can to get that starting spot,” said Delahoussaye. “That’s just the type of kid that he is.”

Anthony is expected to report to WVSU in August for the start of fall football practice.
