Kenneth J. Voorhies

Funeral services will be conducted for Mr. Kenneth John Voorhies, 81, at 11 a.m. Saturday July 18, 2009, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church with Msgr. Richard Green officiating and  Fr. Steve LeBlanc and Fr. J. Wilson Matt con celebrating.  Interment will follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Friday with a Rosary at 7 p.m.  The funeral home will reopen at 8 a.m. on Saturday until service time.

A native and resident of New Iberia, Mr. Voorhies passed away at 11 p.m. on Wednesday July 15, 2009, at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Voorhies was a lector, Eucharistic Minister and church volunteer at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.  He called Bingo on Saturday mornings at Heritage North since 1997.  Kenneth was a Jack-of-all-trades who enjoyed woodworking, building cabinets, etc. and an artist.  He was full of energy and could fix almost anything.  He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary-Margaret Disch Voorhies, of New Iberia; daughters Elizabeth Dean and husband, James, of New Iberia, Karen Williams and husband, Danny, of Youngsville and Arlene Hoag and husband, Chris, of New Iberia; grandchildren Emily, Katelyn and Thomas Dean and Marie and Madeline Hoag; and brothers Dr. Vernon Voorhies of New Iberia and David Voorhies of Lake Charles.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rufus P. and Gladys Thibodeaux Voorhies; son Kenneth Voorhies Jr.; brother Dean Voorhies; and sister Rae Voorhies Bacque’.

Pallbearers will be James Dean, Chris Hoag, Thomas Dean and Alexis Voorhies, William David Dean and Phillip Hoag.

Honorary pallbearers will be Danny Williams, Mike Villermin, and Earl Hardy, Vernon Bacque’, Jack Rockenschuh.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to CHS Endowment Fund, 1301 DeLaSalle Drive, New Iberia, LA  70560.
