Landry turns game around at finish BY NEAL MCCLELLANDThe Daily Iberian Michael Landry went from potential goat to hero in one swing of the bat. Landry, the Blue Stream shortstop, had three key errors Wednesday night as Franklin rallied from a 13-2 deficit to take a 19-18 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh inning. But everything changed as Landry blasted a three-run home run with one out as Blue Stream claimed the 21-19 win to stay in third place in American Legion District 3-Central. “I learned from my dad,” said Landry. “After last week I had about six errors in three games and he told me that most of those errors were mental because after I make errors I just can’t help but think about it.” One could forgive Landry if those three errors Wednesday stayed on his mind and Blue Stream would have lost the contest. “I just had to put it behind me,” said Landry, who also had to other hits in the contest an RBI-single in the third and a double in the sixth and scored three runs in the win. “I just forgot about those errors and came back and basically won the game for us.” Blue Stream coach Tim Comeaux was happy for his Catholic High senior. “Hat’s off to Michael Landry on the game-winning home run,” said Comeaux. “I had a feeling that he was going to hit something hard, he had done that all night. “It’s go to make him feel good to walk off with that win. You kind of forget about those errors after seeing something like that. All baseball players at this age have to have a sense of confidence about themselves and that ought to boost his confidence.” |
