One man is dead and two more are in custody after a fight early Saturday morning.

Felipe Cogom Cortez, 28, died from multiple in-juries inflicted during a fight with roommate Juan J. Amperez, 29, authorities said.

“Deputies were called to 2900 Jerome Road at 3:30 a.m. to assist with a medical call,” Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office Spokes-man Capt. Wendell Raborn said in a release. “When deputies arrived they found a 28-year-old male deceased at the scene and another male badly in-jured.”

Raborn said Cortez and his two roommates, Ampe-rez and Silvestre C. Al-vardo, also 29, had been drinking heavily in the front yard of their trailer. Cortez and Amperez started fighting shortly after 3 a.m. The fight ended when Amperez struck Cortez several times in the head.

Raborn said he is not at liberty to disclose the weapon used.

Raborn said Amperez and Alvardo attempted to conceal Cortez’ body, but a witness to the fight called an ambulance.

Iberia Parish Coroner Dr. James Falterman Sr. said Cortez was pronounced dead at 5:32 a.m. from multiple injuries.

An autopsy has been ordered but will not be completed until Monday or Tuesday, Falterman said.

Amperez was treated at Iberia Medical Center for injuries received during the fight and released, Raborn said.

Amperez and Alvardo have been booked into the Iberia Parish Correctional Center. Amperez has been charged with second de-gree murder. Alvardo has been charged with principal to second degree murder.

Raborn said all three men are from Guatemala. He said their status as legal or illegal is un-known.

No bond has been set.

" Deputy's Dad: (or deputies' dad): Lighten up. Nobody is perfect. And trust me, the Daily Iberian actually is staffed by good writers.

I do it professionally myself, so I think I'm qualified to make that assessment. I read the New Orleans paper a great deal, and it is written on a lower level than the Iberian. "

" It's seems clear that those dissatisfied with the quality of the on-line DI should absolutely receive a refund of double their money back, and perhaps even a coupon for a free edition. Or, instead of proudly illustrating their grasp of 8th grade punctuation, perhaps critics can find a hobby such as starting fine and personal daily blogs with their obviously ample on-line free time. Yes, I envision blogs which chronicle their other time-consuming inanities, such as complaining to disinterested passers-by about the weather, or possibly disparaging the inadequate quality of their neighbor's lawn care. Have at it faithful on-line readers! "

" To DI Reader: OK, so the writer is a genius. The editor needs an education...

How hard can it be to edit a few words??

Professionalism is EVERYTHING and the format needs to be presented as if it was actually put together BY professionals. Errors in their online publication give the DI the appearance of a badly written blog... "

Most of the hyphen's located in the story are from copying and pasting the story out of the digital edition of the newspaper and posted here online.

It is wise to make sure you know what you're talking about before you make rude remarks on the quality of the "writers offerings". "

I've done my share of hard work and would love to sit around and do nothing. Seems to become more and more common that people are willing to help a person how to get around the system ... now THAT IS A DISGRACE! "

" Have you ever thought of hiring writers that actually know how to WRITE?

multiple in-juries?? Injuries maybe? Spokes-man? Perhaps the word is spokesman.

Ampe-rez and Silvestre C. Al-vardo? I realize they are Hispanic names, but not ALL Hispanic names are automatically hyphenated. Amperez has been charged with second de-gree murder? Second degree I am guessing? And for the love of God, it's unknown, all one word, no un-known.

Please get a writer that doesn't think a hyphen is her best friend! Just a simple spell check would do wonders for the quality of this writers offerings. "
