LaWanda S. Sprague

Private services were held for Mrs. James C. Sprague II, the former LaWanda Stanfield, 81, at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 25, 2009, at Evangeline Funeral Home.  Pastor David Denton of Highland Baptist Church officiated.  Interment was in Beau Pre Mausoleum.  Mrs. Sprague passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at her residence.

Mrs. Sprague was born June 14, 1928, in Lost Springs, Kan. to Tennis Linder Stanfield and the former Fern Reich. 

She was raised in Eureka, Kan., but spent most of her life in Russell, Kan. In 1972, she moved to New Iberia.

Mrs. Sprague was a homemaker devoted to her family.  She enjoyed sewing and was an extraordinary seamstress having made a lot of her daughters’ clothes.  She also loved to cook and bake and shared many memorable meals with her family.  LaWanda was a collector of clocks and shoes.  She had over 150 clocks that adorned the walls of her home and she enjoyed all of them.  She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend and will be missed dearly.

Survivors include her husband of 58 years, James C. Sprague II of New Iberia; her children Deborah Lynn Sprague of Broussard and James C. Sprague III and wife, Kristin, of Youngsville; three grandchildren Allison Sprague, Jamie Sprague and James C. Sprague IV; and her sister Mary Rowell of Heflin.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Tennis L. Stanfield and Fern Reich Stanfield; three brothers Tennis Stanfield Jr., Daryl Stanfield and Val Gene Stanfield; and a sister Norma Myers.

Pallbearers will be members of the family.

Memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Sprague’s name to Highland Baptist Christian School, 708 Angers Street, New Iberia, LA 70563.

Evangeline Funeral Homes of New Iberia was in charge of arrangements.
