Yet, I see article after article posted here blasting Obama in one way or another and without exception, all of them are myopic, short sighted diatribes playing into this us vs. them mentality using arguments that would apply equally well if not more so to Bush and Co. Such hypocrisy is also usually tainted with subtle racist implications that one only needs the slightest ability to read between the lines in order to notice. I don't think these people are doing this on purpose. It's simply how people grow up in New Iberia.
The thug culture is alive and thriving in New Iberia. Much more so than practically any other city in Acadiana. One only needs to realize that this culture isn't a racial phenomenon but an economic one. Poor people of all races become thugs. New Iberia has an inordinate amount of poor people. Yet, we are taught by our fathers and grandfathers, reinforced by generations of ignorance and hatred that the problem is skin color. This inherited racism comes out in these anti-Obama posts. People actually compare Obama to a crotch grabbing thug. There is no basis in reality for such a comparison. It is purely a result of this subtle racism that exists more prominently in New Iberia than anywhere else in Acadiana.

I believe that the separation of our communitiy is not based on color, but moreso on culture and history. We all tend to follow our culture respective cultures, values, etc, and pass them on to our young. I find that these cultures are slowly migrating closer, due to our society force feeding us via the media and also reprimanding any type of separatists behavior. I also believe there is no denying that, for years, and somewhat still today, the black culture is predominantly a deprived culture. (Con't) "

Your's was one of the most racist comments here in a long time and there have been some doozies. It boils down to this. "If you can't do the time, then don't do the crime." oooyaaa! "

I’m not a racist but, with a little more prodding, I could become just as racist as the Obama administration. "

I live on the east coast now and my 2 nieces ages 5 and 6 came up to visit last summer. I was shocked to witness them play a game they called "white girl, black girl." They sat on opposite sides of the room pretending they could not come and "visit" one another because "the people in the houses next door and across the street" would get mad. I mean REALLY?? "

I believe people who engage in heated discussions about racism believe themselves to be the victims of perceived racism. Some blacks choose to find racism everywhere, whereas some whites see nothing but reverse discrimination. There was a post some time ago remarking that Obama's election would present a test of our times...a test, mind you, not a race...so take notes and work together. "

My point is that God is punishing us for having allowed abortion, etc to BECOME the law of the land already - BO is just making sure that it will remain the law due to anti-life legislation and appointment of pro-abortion judges at every level. He is our punishment, not the original problem. I pray for his salvation daily. "

I disagree,however with a couple of points.
One, most of what I have witnessed here is blaring, obvious racism and full of hatred. Sometimes the only thing I can do is shake my head; words fail me
while trying to understand the hatred expressed by some people.
Two, I believe the negative Obama letters are written by the same person. I think he loves it when other people join in that same negative, song and dance.
I try, I try very hard to keep upbeat, but sometimes I cry for humanity "
