13-year-old girl killed in shooting

A 13-year-old girl was shot and killed this morning in the West End, the authorities said.

The identity of the girl was not immediately available. Iberia Parish Sheriff Louis Ackal said she was riding in a white Toyota Corolla on Mixon Street when she was shot in the back.

Ackal said deputies have arrested at least one suspect in connection with the shooting.

The shooting happened just before 3 a.m. Ackal said the girl was riding back from Wal-Mart with a number of others.

The girl was taken to Iberia Medical Center but pronounced dead on arrival, Ackal said.
