why no Parish owned landfill?

The only landfill accessible to Iberia Parish residents is privately owned and operated commercially. Why doesn't Iberia Parish man up and build their own landfill and put it where it is not in the way of the 2 airports and residential housing?

It seems short-sided to me with all of the infrastructure grants being passed around that could not have our own Parish landfill.................and then we would be free of the virtual hostage situation we are now in with Gordon Doerle's commercial operation.

Short-sighted our Parish government is...........no airport zoning, and no Parish owned landfill. Iberia Parish should man up and build its own Parish owned landfill so that we don't have to suck up to Gordon Doerle's monopoly!

" Thats a bit of an Oxymoron isn't it? Government run something that turns a profit! I wish!! The problem with most of the land in the parish is three is not enough buffer zone in any area that is adequate to sustain what wish. We are land locked here. What is high and dry is developed are has development near it. You can develop wetlands anymore which is what boarders us to the north and south wihtout going threw a process that you can't afford. " Rizzo:

Glad to grasp you reasoning is becoming stronger. While there is no perfect solution to the NIMBY crowd, one solution is to buy enough land that a buffer zone all around the perimeter could be the difference.

Say 1320 feet or 2640 feet. Also new Parish zoning could tag future developers not to build around it.

The new dump should make money for the Parish if it is run well. "

I wouldn't have a problem with a Parish owned landfill but where could we possibly put it that it would not offend the NIMBY crowd?

Somebody's feelings will always get hurt. "

He probably thought I was only a go cart plane and misjudged my massive speed.

I will drop his remains over the landfill tomorrow to be with his friends. "

Rizzo you're always getting off track.

This thread is about the advantages of the Parish and the Parish taxpayers having their own landfill.

Once again not whom is a bad person or whom is a good person.

Most anybody that works for a living and pays taxes is good by me so lighten up people and be nice, we might need each other one day. "

" Your right, that is another way of saying it. Believe me, I'm not going to defend any of the politicians. I've said all along that we the people are just pawns in a huge political chess game. I think that Gordon could save himself a lot of head-ache if he were to save the millions he is paying his lawyer team and pay off the right people, (or person) "

To Frank Rizzo wrote on Jun 17, 2009 6:41 AM:

Thats the point I've been trying to make all along! It has nothing to do with safety, it's all political! "

You're right, we should all stop dreaming and accept that Iberia Parish will always be just a corrupt, non-progressive, podunk, little nothing parish in the cess-pool state of Louisiana.

Pick up the paper and read of all of the infrastructure dollars being pumped into other projects around the US. Why do you think that Iberia Parish Louisiana should not seek the same treatment as some dang yankee town up north? "

" Sky King. You don't get it. Having a Parish landfill would make it more difficult for the local politicians to get a cut. Public landfill, or any public operation is subject to audits, oversight and voter scrutiny.

With a private landfill, the owner can pass the money to the politicians easier. And also, the granting of contracts to landfill contracts can be used for political payoffs. "

to hello: no we don't have to put up with Gordon's landfill, new state law could stop him. The Parish Council and the D.A. could man up and stop him with new zoning.

Everybody is scared of the landfill owner,............he must know where all the bodies are buried. "

    D. Hertz wrote on Jun 15, 2009 2:38 PM:

" Well put Sky King. Do you really think these back woods people in charge around here will ever "man up?"

Maybe you could think of a way to have this happen "under-the-table" and then, maybe the locals will be interested. You see they don't want anything legitmate and on the up-and-up.

    Good luck anyway. "

I don't know Gordon personally but if you want to know the truth you got to dig deep around here. I don't really agree that it is the best place for it but we need a C&D lanfill and whether you like it or not we are stuck with it "

Hello wrote on Jun 15, 2009 2:25 PM:

" Additionally your not stuck with Gordon's landfill you can go down 182 three miles to Green Point C&D Landfill pay more per dump and they don't take certain C&D materials that are classified as such for one reason or another. Where was the outcry and picket lines when there was a stinky smelly bird infested GARBAGE dump on Darby Lane which was 13600 ft from the main runway or that Spanish lake home to much wildlife is only 5400 ft from the runway. Maybe we should fill it in just in case while we are at it. "

" The parish has its own C&D Landfill off of Freetown Road which it uses & dumps all of the C&D materials they pickup with inmate labor from around the parish. Its located about 7200ft from the seaway and 8500 ft from the main runway. Where is the outrage? The problem is they filled it up w/ alot of parish hurricane debris when the off site area at Patouville was shut down due to griding season starting. They don't have enough land or space to make it larger and will be in a bind if another hurricane comes "
