Recent actions from our Sen. Troy Hebert have led me to beg the question of his intentions regarding Gordon Doerle’s landfill and his fight on behalf of the Acadiana Regional Airport. According to Hebert, he was asked by several different constituents and entities to fight the landfill in the vicinity of the airport. However, both the District Attorney and the Parish Council both have come out publicly against the actions of the Senator. Recent comments indicate that this issue has been mitigated in the justice system, but according to Hebert’s recent comments at the Senate Committee hearing, “the Parish Council received poor legal advice from the DA’s office.”
What I can’t seem to figure out is, what are Sen. Hebert’s true intentions?
Sen. Hebert has been in public service for over 20 years at both the local and state levels. I am unaware of any previous attempts by him to assist the airport on the quest for economic viability. He was never the author of any capital outlay request, and as Senator has not directed any funds for infrastructure improvements to the airport. Now, he is two years into a battle against one man and his business. Again, what are the reasons for this bill? Is this a political vendetta or personal issue that he has taken to the state level and against one man and his business? Has he put the full strength of the state of Louisiana and the commission on which he sits to settle a score?
Recent articles within The Daily Iberian have also been written concerning the Parish’s desire to build sewage retention ponds within the airport itself. However, Sen. Hebert has made no mention of this issue and how it might affect the airport, as he has seemed to do so aggressively in regards to the landfill. Is Sen. Hebert really concerned for public safety or trying to settle a score, or maybe something else?
Many questions keep running through my mind. I urge the people of Iberia Parish to think for themselves and ask Sen. Hebert about his true intentions?
Regards,
Christopher J. Gary

You are accusing Troy Hebert of taking sides when it is obvious from the tone of your letter that you are CLEARLY taking a side against Troy Hebert, no matter what he does. If you truly wanted to contribute to the demise of the backstabbing attitudes, then quit making such divisive and hateful comments. "

Many local interests are always fantasing using ARA as a convienient flea market for non-aircraft services and goods.
I can assure you that aircraft interests will squash the parish fantasy of putting septic ponds on ARA, just like they did for landfills on the end of the runway and the detention center. "

Iberia Parish had some 40 years to study and write proper airport zoning. They chose not to do so.
Now comes Senator Hebert with a statewide airport zoning plan, lucky for us.
Mr. Doerle's cries of local politics to cover his trail on poor personal planning falls on deaf ears to people with a brain. "

Have you ever questioned the former senator on his actions or lack of?
I have spoken to several parish council members individually and they do not oppose Senator Hebert's bill; they cannot speak publicly. Others are intimidated by the D. A. The D. A. has made this personal. One should dig a little deeper to the end result.
It all appears to be "sour grapes." "

I reject your notion that Senator Hebert's support of the Louisiana Aircraft Industries automatically marks him as up to no good.
I assume you have no aircraft credentials and if so you are aircraft illiterate.
Mr. Hebert is in fact working on a large capital outlay grant for the airports in Iberia Parish. If you were aircraft qualified you would know this.
I bring to your attention that S.B.317 is a statewide issue correction to save other Parishes an unending future fight like the one in Iberia Parish. "

Hebert has been in public office a long time but not as senator. What did the previous senator do to protect the airport?
The sewer pond issue is the job of the airport because it is on airport property.
I know it's confusing to have a public official do something for the right reasons, get over it. "
