Column: New Iberia WBA holds Handicap City Championships

The New Iberia USBC Women’s Bowling Association held its 57th Annual Handicap City Championship Tournament at Bayou Pins with the following winners.

In the handicap division, team event was won by Lucky Bunch with a 2451 team score. Team members were Barbara Moore, Judy Clark, Bonnie Dauterive and Shannon Lopez. In singles Trudy Roseberry was tops with 669 set. Andrea Broussard and Rhonda Guillotte combined for a 1272 score to claim the doubles event and Alexis Romero bowled her way to the all-events title with a three set score of 1845.

In the scratch division, team event was once again won by Lucky Bunch with a 2112 score. Another two time winner was Trudy Roseberry winning the singles event with a 581. In the doubles, Helen Daniels and Mary Patin combined for a 1076 score for first and Shannon Lopez was tops in all-events with a 1593 score.

There were 12 teams, 24 doubles and 48 singles entered in the tournament.

The Louisiana State USBC Women’s Bowling Association held their 2009 annual meeting in Alexandria, according to Susie Brown, Association Manager.

Prior to the start of the meeting, a memorial service took place where all deceased members of the association were memorialized with a candle lighting ceremony.

Following this Diane Domingue of Baton Rouge was inducted into the state hall of fame in the Superior Performance Category.

State high scratch awards were presented to the following individuals.

High average: Shannon Duplantis, New Orleans, 229.

High scratch game: 300, Daneita Adams, Shreveport-Bossier City; Dianne Bertucci, New Orleans; Brinda Burks, Shreveport-Bossier; Timberly Jones, Greater Hammond; Kellie Manuel, Lafayette; Connie Thibodeaux, Bayou Region; Dory Turnipseed, New Orleans; and Judy Vogel, New Orleans.

High scratch series: Bernadine Thompson, New Orleans, 807.

First 200 book average: Rhonda Bulliard, New Iberia, 206; Christine Bodenheimer, New Orleans, 202; Stacy Bagby Bordelon, New Orleans, 202; Dayna Lehmann, New Orleans, 206; Sherry Mendez, New Orleans, 202; Julie Moore, New Orleans, 200; Britney Russell, New Orleans, 210; and Kateri Williams, New Orleans, 202.

Upcoming events scheduled for the Louisiana Sate USBC Women’s Bowling Association are as follows.

The state 500 Bowling Club 21st Annual Tournament is set for June 6-7 at Country Lanes, Natchitoches. Entry deadline is June 1.

The state 600 Bowling Club Annual Tournament is June 27 at Petro Bowl in Lake Charles. Entry deadline is June 5.

The state Senior Tournament will be held Oct. 24-25 at Lafayette Lanes. Entry forms will be available Aug. 1.

Two new divisions have been added to the senior tournament. The Super Seniors Division for those who are 75 years or older.

There will also be a division for those who are ages 50-54.

This new division will not qualify to bowl in the USBC National Senior Tournament as they do not offer that division, but the Super Senior Division is offered by USBC.

Members of the Pro Bowl West set a United States Bowling Congress record for highest team series with 3937 on March 30 in Chattanooga, Tenn. The score was officially approved by USBC on April 7.

Chris Cross (805), Gary Workman (772), Chris Massengale (828), Anthony Reviere (748), and Frank Massengale (784) had 1341, 1250 and 1346 games in the Eastgate Men’s League at Holiday Lanes.

They beat the 3934 score by Limo Exchange in New Castle, Del., in 2004.
