Thank you Obama

I thank God for stem cell research and I thank Obama for lifting the restrictions on stem cell testing. If God did not intend us to go along those paths, he would have never given the scientists the intelligence to perform said research.

For you anti-stem cell activists who say that this research is an abomination because that’s not what God intended; have you ever taken an aspirin? Have you ever taken any medication? If so you are a hypocrite.

What if society dictated to not allow Sir Alexander Fleming to pursue his invention of penicillin in 1928? Or Edward Jenner in 1796, who invented the small pox vaccine? What if Dr. Christian Bernard were banned from performing open heart surgery? Where would we be today? Probably with life spans only to 45 years old.

I’ll bet that a vast majority of you naysayer’s if faced with the decision to either let your child die or have the chance of experimental research to save his/her life, you would chose the latter. You would make no different decision if it were a choice to have antibiotics save your child or die. If God didn’t intend for us to save people with medicine he wouldn’t have given the scientists the knowledge to do so.

If you believe in God, then you should believe that he works through all of us, good or bad. What paths we choose from what he gives us in intelligence determines our final outcome at judgment time.

Should we create embryos to destroy them? I say no. But, for the ones that they will destroy anyway, I feel that is wasteful, if you could save a life. If you believe in organ donations after death, it is no different in my opinion.

That is what this forum is…. an expression for differences of opinion.

" Adult stem cells are tissue specific stem cells and are more limited and specialized than embryonic stem cells.Stem cells from the umbilical cord are known as hematopoietic or blood-forming stem cell,is more specialized than embryonic stem cells, but it has the ability to generate all types of blood and immune system cells. It does not have the ability to form cells in other tissues, like the brain.Embryonic stem cells, with their greater potential to form lifesaving cells and their apparent ability to grow indefinitely in a lab dish, will likely lead to new treatments, new insight into into the origin of human disease. " Most scientist agree that embryos should not be created for the soul purpose of research, and they themselves consider this to be un-ethical. The scientific community have reached a broad agreement on guidelines and limitations concerning this type of research. The guidelines developed by the National Academy of Sciences are as follows:
Use only IVF clinic embryos that are slated for disposal.
Obtain parental consent to use embryos for research.
Do not purchase embryos or pay donors.
Do not create human embryos solely for research.
Do not perform nuclear transfer for the purpose of reproduction. "

" Embryonic stem cells are derived from microscopic embryos created in a dish by in-vitro fertilization.(takes 4-5 days)The embryos are created for the purpose of fertility treatment, but not all embryos are suitable for this purpose and many embryos end up being discarded by fertility clinics.Embryos that would otherwise be discarded can be used for the derivation of embryonic stem cell lines with the informed consent of the donors. Answer me this, if they are getting thrown out, why not use these cells to unlock cures to help everyone? Scientist currently believe these cells have a greater potential to form lifesaving cells. "

First of all, I know Mrs. Romero and she is none of those things. She is a caring, Christian who only tries her best in everything she does. Secondly, stem cells planned for destruction is still murder. Call it what you wish. "

You are so on point with regard to the Daily Iberian and their policy. They allow this to get their own thrills but they only allow this to be printed by certain people. They restrict others and do not print them. Just a FYI for you. "

It is sad but remember there are 10 commandments don't just consentrate on #6. God gave us 10 for a reason. "

They should not have been shelved awaiting their fate in the first place. It brings about a greater debate. I don't believe in artificially creating an embryo, therefore I don't believe they should be in the situation they are in. The problem is one thing leads to another, and before you know it we have lost all humanity. "

The stem cells in reference are embryos that are planned for destruction. If your want to crusade against anything it would be the embryo banks. Not obama. Dingbat. Get the facts and quit listening to Limabugh. "

But the point is to not make it an option so that our conscience can be free. I never want to violate an innocent life. The other point is that if the administration has so little respect for the life of an unborn innocent that can't defend themselves, do you think it will stop there? There's more to it than that. "

You may not agree with the research but you would accept the cure. "

Evidence shows that stem cell research from adults are successful as opposed to embryonic stem cell research. So which one of you older people are willing to die in order to have your body dissected so we can get a hold of your stem cells? Sadly the infants don't get a chance to make that choice. "

To try and compare what Fleming and Jenner research did to what is going on with embryonic stem cells is quite a reach. Fleming and Jenner did not destroy potential human life to achieve their results. What will be the next step?

Your comments are devoid of any humanity. Very sad. "

That's the problem I have. Listen, I have a serious medical condition that could have me end up in a wheelchair or on a breathing machine, and I would not take a cure if it meant "

" I agree that God gave man the intelligence to pursue answers toward healing. He does not expect us to check(leave) our morals at the door. Stem cell research does not have to be only on an aborted fetus(baby). There are many other avenues to be taken without taking the life of an unborn human. Did Obama lift that stipulation? If not it needs to be declared off limits. This was set in Bushes policy, no stem cell research on the unborn or aborted fetus(baby). You need to pay attention. "

It's just Obama tooting his horn and spending more money he doesn't have and making you believe he is taking care of you! Embryonic Stem Cells have never saved a life. Stem Cells harvested from adults have. "

Your analogy about God giving us the knowledge to do this litany of things is fallace. God gives us free will, we choose how we are going to do things. To use you analogy, God gave us guns and the knowledge of how to use them so killing must be okay. "

While some of the research while fine tuning modern day medicine may have hurt or killed people, the orginial intention was not to KILL, but to help. To justify murder for science- then Hilter should be applauded by your statements, not disliked. That's what he did and where many of our modern medicinal techniques come from. - Concentration camps, toture and murder. "
