Ferry’s “Morning into Day into Night” is the official poster art for 2009’s Festival and is being auctioned off from now until the Festival’s end.
Adrienne Stewart, marketing coordinator for the festival, said each year the festival seeks “a local artist who creates, with passion, a piece that ... symbolizes the heart and soul” of the Festival and “our unique culture.”

Ferry said the piece can be interpreted as three figures or as one person at various stages of a full day at the Festival — morning, daytime and night, with each part of the day having a different mood. The figures also show the “sing,” “dance,” and “play” elements of Festival, she said.
“There’s just different energy going on, and it builds all day long,” Ferry said.
The piece is a watercolor to which Ferry wired beads, raffia, reeds, caning material and one metallic bit per piece.
After the piece was complete, Ferry worked with Anne & Curtis Darrah of Darrah Design + Marketing — the official graphic designer of Festival, located in New Iberia — to create the posters and pins, which are now available online.
Ferry’s work is up for auction until April 25 and can be seen at the Acadiana Center for the Arts at 101 West Vermilion St. in Lafayette. Stewart said proceeds go to next year’s Festival.
The 23rd Festival International de Louisiane is from April 22-26 in downtown Lafayette. For more information call 232-8086 or visit www.festivalinternational.com.
