Recently, while my wife and I were listening to the Dave Letterman TV show, we heard guest star Jennifer Aniston say she had attended a big Hollywood party. When Letterman asked who gave it, her reply was, “Bryan Lourd — a CAA bigwig.”
I was amazed, for this is the same Bryan Lourd of New Iberia whom I had contacted many years ago when he first started out in the Hollywood area — he has now become a super agent.

He has served as partner, managing director and co-chairman of Creative Artists Agency (CAA) since 1995. Bryan also is a Director of Inter Active (IAC), an online media company. He oversaw construction of CAA’s 240,000 sq. ft. headquarters in Century City, Ca., which cost about $35 million.
Bryan’s clients are “top drawer.” They include: George Clooney, Robert deNiro, Brad Pitt, Jimmy Fallon, Matthew McConaughey, Sean Penn, Madonna, Naomi Watts, Natalie Portman, Robin Williams, Arnold Schwarznegger, David Duchovny, Helen Hunt and others.
Wow! What a career. I’m sure his relatives and friends are proud of him. He deserves a great deal of recognition for his amazing accomplishments.

My good friend Bill Bailey wonders what has happened to the 1950’s sign at the corner of Main and Chestnut streets, which read “Queen City of the Teche” on one side and had a picture of Evangeline, along with an arrow, pointing to St. Martinville on the other side. He says there’s a picture of the sign in Glenn Conrad’s book on New Iberia on page 350. Call Bill at 364-2095.

I found something interesting in an old Louisiana tour guide that I’d like to share with you. It stated that the flags of more sovereign nations have flown over Louisiana than any other state of the Union.
It listed the following: The Spanish colors of Leon and Castile hoisted by DeSoto in 1541; the French Fleur-de-Lis, 1682; British Union Jack, 1763; Bourbon Spain, 1769; French Tri-Color, 1803; U.S. flag of 15 stars, 1803; West Florida Lone Star, 1810; Independent Louisiana, 1861; Confederate flag, 1861; and, of course, our beloved present U.S. flag.

During a recent visit to Cypress Bayou Casino in Charenton we were amazed to see so many beautiful decorations. The ones which caught my eye were Mardi Gras wreaths, which are about five feet in diameter.
They’re made up of multi-colored beads, lights, balls and other sparkling items.
It was the prettiest I’ve ever seen, and they graced several rooms.
The little lady who is responsible for these wonderful wreaths and floral designs is Maxine Ducrest, who, along with her husband Ted, runs a flower shop in Loreauville called Interior Plant Services.
When talking to this talented lady about the casino decorations, she told me to make sure to credit her design crew of co-workers: Joyce Weber of Jeanerette, Bobette Landry of New Iberia and Pam Chastant of Loreauville. Ted is also in on designs and provides manpower.

“Hats off” to the LSU men’s basketball team and Coach Trent Johnson for an amazing winning season. Keep tuned for more excitement.

I began writing Bayou Browsing over 13 years ago, and I betcha I’ve worn out four or five typewriters. Unfortunately, the one I have now is giving me trouble. I need a new one, or one which is in good condition.
The machine I like and feel comfortable with is the small SCM electric typewriter.
The computer age has caused many to stash typewriters aside. If you have one in your closet, we could make a deal. Please call me at 369-3220.

Scientists tell us there are three things that reveal we’re getting old. First we begin losing our memory, and — and —and, oh heck! I can’t remember the other two.
Bye, bye.
