Since its U.S. premiere Wednesday night at the Grand Theatre in New Iberia or even before on DVD, many Teche Area residents have gotten the chance to see “In the Electric Mist,” a movie based off the novel “In the Electric Mist with Confederate Dead,” which was written by local author James Lee Burke.

Now that all the work has made the big screen, we would like to know what you think of the movie.

Those who have seen the film are asked to leave a comment on this story with their opinion of the movie and its depiction of the Teche Area. Responders are asked either to leave an opinion of their own or comment on someone else’s view.

" We should not be intimidated into saying that we want this badly planned, badly executed movie to succeed. It is plain to see it cannot. I say to those defending this movie, "Next time, please come back with a well planned and executed movie which has a chance of being economically successful, then we'll hope for your success." Same thing goes for Obama administration's failed liberal economic policies. "

" Why is it only the gripes are submitted to the forum by some? Don't you ever have anything good to say? Many people I know went to the movie and enjoyed it. So it wasn't the $15 millon budget. We enjoyed ourselves and we're educated people. I agree with Kay. If actors would sound exactly like us, others would think it' a joke. Don't you know people snicker at our accent all the time. As an educated citizen, I commend the film makers and hope you come back to film here again. Don't let the hicks scare you away. "

" I thought there was a lot of scenes from New Iberia and the surrounding areas. In fact almost all of it. There were very few scenes where I did not know where they were. Namely when they were inside of buildings.Even then I knew some of them such as the courthouse and St. John Plantation. I did however think the movie was very bad. The fact that the bad guy was only in like 2 scenes before finding out he was the bad guy at the end was stupid. We had no relationship with him whatsoever. Great scenery, BAD Movie! "

" The movie was enjoyable because it was entertaining to recognize all the places and people from this area. However, there are several holes in the plot that unless you have read the book you won't just "get it". Several scenes were cut out that would have explained some questions.
I thouhgt the actors did great with the accents. Mais chere, if they'd really talked lik some of us do dat would make us look stoopid. "

" We just moved here, and admittedly are in love with the area. I haven't read the books, but since seeing the movie, I'm sure I'll read them all. We saw the movie just this afternoon in a packed theater. It was great! I did notice that the accents were a little off, sounding more like central Alabama than what I've grown accustomed to hearing locally. I found the story line easy to follow, the characters believeable, and the scenery spectacular. Now, if I can just find a guide to some of those places, I'll be in heaven! "

" You people who are bashing the movie saying it is horrible are the type who can be pleased no matter how good this movie would have turned you would not be happy. Although some people involved were probably not easy to deal with , it is a plus to have this made here trust me they spent a lot of money in this area. We should be hoping it works out that they shoot another movie here but with all the negative spewing out of most of you I would not blame them for not doing another "

" Same old bash the south *!?.Do they hire consultants at all? The pronunciation of names was horrible, the accents worse. Still trying to figure out how the actor said Atchafalaya. Thank goodnes Buddy Guy knew how to say it - but he would - wouldn't he? Too bad they didn't consult him on how to pronounce a few other names! Didn't like the throw down guns either. Also the part where Goodman says millions of dollars are pumped into a local economy when a movie is filmed - PLEASE! But they could not ruin the scenery, huh? "

" After seeing this movie it is very easy to understand why the producers made the decision not to release this piece of rubbish in theaters. Simply awful. Tommy Lee Jones didn't have a clue about Dave Robicheaux's character. The director didn't get it either. "

" I loved the movie. James Lee Burke writes interesting award winning books in which he develops characters and always leads to a twist at the ending with a moral messege.
Those moviegoers who want spoon fed story development and action scenes did not like this movie, it was over their heads.
I loved to see New Iberia and the surrounding parishes so well incorporated into the story.
Thank you James Lee Burke, Tommy Jones, John Goodman and everyone else for this little gem of a movie. "

" I tend to agree with "since you asked". So many considerations here. One: If a company moves into our area to manufacture ceramic vases, hire employees, pay taxes, etc... then we should welcome them whether or not we like their product.
The movie makers spent money in our area and gave us something different to talk about. However, since you asked us to review the movie, whereever it was filmed, it was on par with a film school student flick. The accents were so fake, especially the phony southern accent Tommy Lee has used in every movie he's made. "

" I thought the scenery was beautiful. The camera portrayed the area extremely well. I thought the actors did well. But, I would say there was a problem with editing, as it was a bit "choppy". The producers and director control those aspects. And, in my opinion, I dont think Jones or Goodman was very happy with the final product. But, my first impression after seeing the film was that I sometimes take for granted the beauty of Iberia Parish. "

" I thought the movie was horrid. The way Tommy Lee kept saying peoples names kind creeped me out.... the story line was impossible to follow, I still can't tell you what the movie was about, and the way they chopped the scenes left you wondering where the rest was.....I was also very disappointed in how much of our town was actually in the movie, for as long as we were in convinced you would think there would be more than those few scenes... overall I say if you have not seen it, drink a redbull to stay awake orbetteryetstayaway "
