Heavy rain and storm clouds were rolling in as the Iberia Parish Fire Protection District, the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office, Louisiana State Police and Acadian Ambulance responded to a one-vehicle wreck on Louisiana 675 Tuesday afternoon, east of U.S. 90, near the intersection with Mayo Street.

State Police spokesman Trooper David Anderson said the driver, the only occupant of the vehicle, was charged with one count of careless operation. She was taken to Dauterive Hospital with suspected minor injuries.

Anderson did not disclose any additional information about the crash this morning, including the driver’s name, because the trooper who worked the case was not working this morning and the information was not available.

The crash site was about a mile west of Westgate High School on a small bridge. Traffic in both directions was blocked temporarily due to the crash as crews cleared the scene, and the SUV was resting upside down on the bridge.

Fire Protection District spokesman Guy Bonin said the call for the wreck came in at 12:29 p.m. and units then responded to the scene, adding firefighters put out a small electrical fire in the SUV.

Bonin said no extrication from the vehicle was necessary.
