JEANERETTE — The Jeanerette Police Department has arrested four Jeanerette teenagers in connection with a Monday morning residential burglary.

Billy Ray Jackson, 17, a, a 15-year-old girl and two boys, ages 14 and 16, all of Jeanerette, were arrested for the theft of items at a home in the Henkle Street area valued at approximately $2,000.

Jeanerette Police Chief Larry Jones said the department received a call at 9 a.m. from someone who witnessed the burglary in progress.

Jones said the police department was assisted by Jeanerette City Marshal Fernest Martin.

“The departments together were able to solve this crime within two hours,” said Jones.

“We will not tolerate this type of behavior in this city. People deserve to feel safe in their homes.”

Jackson was scheduled to be transferred to the Iberia Parish Jail Tuesday morning. No bond has been set.

The two male juveniles have been transferred to the St. Martin Detention Center and the female juvenile was to be taken to the St. James Detention Center in Vacherie.

Martin said the stolen items were recovered at a Frisco Street residence and returned to the owner.

Jones said further investigation has resolved several other burglaries that occurred within the city in the past few weeks and arrests are expected soon. Jones is encouraging more community involvement in identifying suspects.

“This is a result when law enforcement and community works together,” he said.

Jackson was booked into the Jeanerette City Jail where he is awaiting a bond hearing.

" I agree with concern citizen. The juveniles were released to their parents who do not supervise them or make them go to school. Now they are back on the streets to cause more havoc and mayhem. The Police Dept is doing a better job of catching these criminals, but what good is it if the courts just slap them on the wrist and say don't do that again. They need to start making examples of these kids and maybe they will see that the courts are not playing with them and stop all this foolishness. "

" Shouldn't the young theives have been at school at 9 a.m. instead of burglarizing a house? I guess criminals are starting out younger and younger.
Congrats to the Jeanerette police dept. and city marshal, and thanks to the person reporting it. It's great when people get involved and work with the police to help in solving crimes. "

I vote for charging the parents/guardians with improper supervision of a minor. "

" My mama used to always tell me if I did something bad, she was gonna beat me like I stole something. I never stole anything b/c of the fear of what that beating would be like. The parents of these juveniles obviously did not put that kind of fear in their children b/c they stole over and over and over again until they got caught!! It's a shame that prison guards and other inmates will deliver the beating that the parents should have long time ago. "

" Well, it looks like the new leader of the police department in on the ball. I have had my property burgularized in Jeanerette. It has been going on for so long and this town is where it is say the robbers. I do not think a bond should be set for them. Let these robbers be an example for those others out there. Robbers, beware there are neighborhood watches all over the city and always remember that nothing that you steal from someone is worth your life! We are ready and taking back Jeanerette. "
