Comeaux, who was involved in parish politics for 31 years, was appointed by the Iberia Parish Council to serve as interim parish president after former Iberia Parish President Will Langlinais resigned after pleading guilty to malfeasance in office charges.
Kathleen Allen, ethics deputy general counsel, said someone who served on a board or council is prohibited by state law from being appointed to any position by the former board the person served on for two years.

Allen said she believes the council does not face any liability for making the appointment.
Comeaux’s is one of 18 ethics cases that have been turned over to the ethics adjudicatory board, which is comprised of seven law judges who “provide a neutral forum where the board of ethics can present their case and respondents can respond,” said Vivian Guillory, general counsel for the adjudicatory board.
The Ethics Board concluded Comeaux’s investigation in May, but it has taken more than six months to be turned over because of the changes in ethics laws and several members leaving the board.
The hearings have not been scheduled yet, and Guillory said it will take some time to contact the persons involved.
Comeaux declined to comment on the case.

I think that if Mr Comeaux did anything wrong, our D.A. should have advised the council that there was a problem and addressed it to the Attorney General for clarification. "

Aggrekko and be an Iberia Parish councilman but poor Caesar Comeaux was wrong for serving as Parish President. Is this what Governor Jindal meant as changes in "Ehtics in Politics". Seems the same old stuff to me. It must be who you know on the state level and then you get them to help you. "

Mr Comeaux needs to hold his head up and be proud of the work he did with the council. "

What good are the legal advisors who are suppose to know the laws if things like this take place. A man is appointed, sworn in and now faces state ethics charges. With all the people involved, the remainder of the council members, Phil Haney, Wayne Landry and Eric Duplantis why does Mr. Comeaux stand to face this alone and no one else is liable.
Something is seriously wrong with this picture. Why dose the council have legal advisors as previously named above if they cannot assist the council with the laws. "

I have to ask, who does this liability fall upon? Mr. Comeaux was a council member just like all the rest but yet he faces this calamity. Since the council holds no liability where does the councils legal advisors come into this picture.
Does there legal advisors, District Attorney Phil Haney, Asst. DA Wayne Landry or Asst. DA Eric Duplantis who presently sits in on meetings as their legal advisor not know the laws? In fact Asst. DA Eric Duplantis swore in Mr. Comaux as interim Parish President.

Does anyone know what the states ethics laws are? It seems our council members do not know the laws. Since this also happened when Will Langlinais was appointed interim Parish President and now Mr. Comeaux I have to wonder. I don't believe Will went through these type of charges when he was sworn in as interim Parish President but is presently being brought out so many years later.
Allen states that she believes the council does not face any liability for making the appointment.
