An Abbeville man riding a motorcycle was severely injured in Iberia Parish Monday after a teenager pulled out in front of him on Captain Cade Road, a spokesman for the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office said.

Randy Bouffannie, 55, was airlifted to Lafayette General Medical Center with severe injuries where he remained in intensive care this morning. Hospital officials declined to release his condition.

Bouffannie, who was driving a black Harley Davidson, attempted to swerve out of the way of a tan 2006 Ford pickup turning off Romero Road, said Sheriff’s Office spokesman Capt. Wendell Raborn.

122908 Acadian Ambulance paramedics prepared to take Randy Bouffannie, 55, of Abbeville to a Lafayette hospital following a motorcycle crash Monday. Bouffannie was severely injured when he laid his motorcycle down to avoid a car that turned into his path on Capt. Cade Road. A New Iberia teen driving the car was cited for failure to yield. Bouffannie lost control of his motorcycle and slid head on into a 2003 Ford pickup, driven by John Breaux of Maurice, in the opposite lane.

The teen, a 16-year-old New Iberia man whose name was withheld because he is a juvenile, was cited for failure to yield while turning left.

No further injuries were reported in the crash.

" Wow, unless you were at the scene of tha accident. None of you know who did what to cause the accident! Why are people so quick to judge who is to blame? Thankfully there was no fatality this time to add to the holiday deaths. All drivers need to be driving defensively. "

" Why always come down on the teens about being careless. Adults are just as bad, need I remind you that quite recently even a police officer caused a bad wreck on highway 90? GIve the kid a break. I am sure he/she didn't do it on purpose and will ALWAYS have this on their conscience!! I'd like to see ONE adult who can honestly say they never cut anyone off or got close to get in a wreck. "

" This accident could have been prevented. If the child would learn discipline when driving. Our Laws need to change, we should never let children get licenses to drive a motor vehichile until they understand the severity of there actions. They are dangerous and carless with no conscious. I pray that the man who was injured will recovery. "
