Panthers tie two, lose one at tourney

LAFAYETTE -- The Catholic High Panthers soccer team tied two games and lost one last week at the COPA Acadiana Tournament at Moore Park.

Catholic High tied Division II Beau Chene and St. Michael’s but lost to Division IV Loyola Prep of Shreveport.

In the first game of the tournament, Michael Robicheaux’s goal off of a rebounded corner kick tied the game as the Panthers tied St. Michael’s.

St. Michael’s took the lead in the first half on a goal, but CHS goalie Ian Bordes held the Warriors without a score the rest of the way in the tied.

Loyola 5, CHS 0

In the second game, Catholic High, minus three starters, gave the Flyers all they could but Loyola scored in the 26th minute and the 28th minute of the first half then added three more goals in the second half for the win.

Brock Romero scored off an assist from Grant Quinlin to give the Panthers a lead they held for most of the contest before Beau Chene tied the game in the final minutes as Catholic High avenged an earlier 4-0 loss to the Gators with a 1-1 draw.

“We surprised a lot of people at the tournament,” said CHS coach John Louviere.

“We aim to build on this momentum and hoepfully surprise some teams in our district.

“Our players are showing great pride this season and are dtermined to take Catholic High soccer to the next level.”

Catholic High plays host to Opelousas Catholic Monday at 11 a.m.
