Soap Opera Content

I am a teacher and today is our first day off for the Christmas holidays.  I just turned on the television and was going through the channels when I came across "As the World Turns".  I am appalled at the content of this show.  Is this what's going on on all daytime TV?  I am not that in the dark about social situations, but I did not expect to see two guys making out on daytime television, when children could be channel surfing just like I was.  Am I the only person bothered by this?  I know homosexuality exists and I am very understanding in respect to it.  I just believe that children should be sheltered until they are mature enough to process what they're seeing.  I would not want to have to explain this to my 11 year old.  The least they could do is sensor it during Christmas vacations and summertime.  Does anyone else agree?
