Lady Panthers end Episcopal’s streak BATON ROUGE -- The Catholic High School Lady Panthers used outstanding defense Saturday to claim a 1-0 win at Episcopal High School, ending the Knights’ 12-game win streak. The CHS defense held the Lady Knights to five shots on goal behind outstanding defensive play by Natalie Derouen, Kristin Jolivette, Sydney Lahasky, Lauren Jolivette, Mallory Derouen, and Taylor Lahasky, said coach Jack Bienvenu. Episcopal had won two tournament championships and outscored opponents 51-5 during its 12-game win streak. After a scoreless first half, the Lady Panthers finally struck with the game’s only goal in the 45th minute of play. Lanie Lissard stole a pass at midfield and passed the ball to Kristen Ball, who combined to advance the ball with Angelle Patout. Ball then slid a pass to Ariele Bienvenu, who was playing for the first time since November. Bienvenu sent a cross pass to a wide-open Casey Breaux, who scored from 12 yards-out. Offensively, the Lady Panthers had several scoring opportunities in both halves, despite the field conditions. “This was a good road win for the girls in front of a very vocal EBR crowd and on such an oddly wet playing surface,” said Bienvenu. The Lady Panthers (6-2-1) travel to Catholic of Pointe Coupee on Friday. |
