In one case, it didn’t hurt the team, but in the other, it cost the team dearly as WHS finished as runner up in the consolation bracket.
Patterson won the consolation championship with a 39-35 victory over Westgate Wednesday afternoon and Notre Dame won te overall championship of the tournament with a 52-42 win over Abbeville.

Daija Hartman scored 18 points and Drasha Favors added seven ponts as Patterson was able to junp out to an early lead and hold off WHS for the consolation title.
“It was inconsistant play,” said Westgate coach Reggie Davis, whose team fell to 4-4 on the year. “Against Jeanerette early in the tournament, Shayne Charles had 14 points and 16 rebounds. Today she maybe had eight points and four rebounds in the first game against West St. Mary and probably about the same against Patterson.
“We only hit about two of 20 shots against West St. Mary in the first half. If we could excute and go to the glass then we sould have done better.
“We were just outrebounded and outhustled against Patterson. Not getting rebounds did us in.”
Charles had eight points against Patterson, Danitra Clay scored nine points and Daniela hawk added seven in the loss.
Westgate will play Jeanerette Monday with the JV starting at 5:30 p.m. and the varsity playing at 6:30 p.m.
Westgate 32, West St. Mary 27
In the consolation semifinal Wednesday morning, Charles scored 15 points to lead WHS over West St. Mary 32-27.
Kayla Landry added nine for Westgate in the win even though the Lady Tigers were held scoreless in the first quarter and rallied for the win.
J’Ashala Haynes led WSM with 11 points and Brittini Edwards added six points in the losing effort.
Patterson 37, Kaplan 36
In the other consolation semifinal, Lauren Francis scored 14 points as Patterson edged Kaplan 37-36.
Daijia Hartman added 11 for the Lumberjills.
Tina Roy had a game-high 18 points for Kaplan.
Notre Dame 52, Abbeville 42
In the tournament finals, Taylor Simon scored 17 and Celia Charles added 12 as Notre Dame bolted out to a 18-11 first quarter lead and cruised to the 52-42 win.
Rechelle Bessard led Abbeville with 16 points.

Alexandria 79, Westgate 78
OPELOUSAS ” Dontae Cannon scored 29 and Hakeem Welch added 27 as Alexandria Senior High beat Westgate 79-78 in the Opelousas Tournament Sunday.
Deon Anthony had 24 points to lead the Tigers, who lead most of the game only to see ASH rally in the fourth quarter to steal the win dropping WHS into the consolation bracket.
Greg Joseph scored 18, Jacolby Colbert added 10 and Courtney Wlitz had 11 for Westgate.
Westgate 68, Northwest 39
OPELOUSAS ” Josh Boutte had 14 points, Jacolby Colbert added 13 and Courtney Wiltz chipped in 12 as Westgate blew past Northwest 68-39 Monday at the Opelousas Tournament.
WHS jumped out to a 24-3 first quarter lead and never looked back.
Individual scorers for Northwest were not available.
Westgate 102, H.L. Bourgeois 71
OPELOUSAS ” Josh Boutte led a group of six players in double figures as Westgate rolled past H.L. Bourgeois 102-71 in the Opelousas Tournament Tuesday.
Boutte scored 21 points, Deon Anthony added 18, Jacolby Colbert had 13, Leroy Charles had 12, Dionta Spencer added 11 and Greg Joseph scored 10 for Westgate in the win.
Individual scorers for Bourgeois were not available.
Westgate will play St. Thomas More in the Cajundome Monday at 7:30 p.m.
