Hanson girls win state title

NATCHITOCHES -- The Hanson girls’ cross country team, loaded with top 10 finishers, put on a running clinic Monday and came away with their first Class A state championship by knocking off defending champion Cedar Creek.

HMS had four top 10 finishers and placed seven in the top 20 in scoring a grand total of 29 points to win the title. Shreveport’s Cedar Creek, which had won seven straight state titles, finished way back in second place with 67 points while Country Day, another long-time cross country power, was way back in third with 109 points.

The only thing Hanson couldn’t do was win the individual title. That went to Christian Life’s Anna Devitt, who finished the three mile course in 19 minutes, 45 seconds.

But the Lady Tigers did take second, third and fourth place with Bailey Coleman (20:03), Allison Junca (20:09) and Courtney Frederick (20-:24) doing the honors. Macy Simoneaux capped off the performance with a 10th-place finish (21:18).

And just to prove how dominate the team was, Conner Judice was 16th (22:34), Carly Fitzgerald was 17th (22:39) and Emily Chauvin was 20th (22:53) for HMS.

The ESA girls finished third in Class B with 83 points behind winner Choudrant (43) and Academy of the Sacred Heart of Grand Couteau (71).
