An Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office narcotics officer has been arrested and charged with multiple counts of burglary, Sheriff Louis Ackal said Wednesday.

Jerrel A. Tauzin, 32, 1341 Twenty Arpent Road, was arrested last week after a criminal investigation found he was linked to “multiple burglaries,” Ackal said.

Ackal said Tauzin is no longer on the force and that the stolen items have been recovered.

Many details of the investigation and the extent of the burglaries remained unclear as of this morning. Ackal said Tauzin targeted “people he knew really well” and was involved in at least one burglary in Lafayette, as well.

A spokesman for the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office did not immediately return a phone call this morning.

It was not immediately clear whether Tauzin had met his $10,000 bond or if he remained in Iberia Parish Correctional Center, where he was booked Oct. 30.

In one burglary, Tauzin is charged with breaking into a residence on General Middleton Street and stealing a .40-caliber pistol along with three 9mm magazines, two Pelican flashlights worth about $50 each, a 4-wheel-drive radio-controlled Revo 33 truck and an estimated $1,000 in accessories for the truck and red duffel bag, according to police records.

More details are expected to be made public today.

" When I sold my house, I realize i also had a shotgun missing that my dad gave me when I was a kid.

Jerrel knew where all my stuff was. He knew that my dad gave me the two guns. He knew that my dad died. He knew that my friend died and his stuff was still in my house. He knew my work schedule.

Now, for those of you who still think he's innocent, they recovered a couple of my things from Jerrel's apartment. Along with an extremely large amount of other stolen property. "

" He made ONE small error in judgement by getting caught and now you folks want to brand him a criminal! ALL of you who are branding Jarrel a criminal need to look at ALL the laws you have broken. I bet ya'll broke speeding law at least once! He has NOT been found guilty of ANYTHING yet! Get over it! "

I just believe vigilante wimps lack any REAL evidence to accuse Jerrel and defame his character. And one other thing. Ya'll keep your mind open to other potiential suspects or get therapy! "

" The narcotics division in iberia parish is a joke! First, evidence tampering, now serial burgulary? The boys in the hood have been complaining about their illegal activities, but it wasn't until it happened to one of our more affluent neighbors does something actually happen. This has been going on for some time, robbing from others to advance themselves. We need to bring back the original "Jump Out Boys", the ones who did honest investigations and made honest arrests. This is another black eye for the many Iberia Parish officers who truly and honestly do their jobs! "

I wonder if this would classify as a "HATE CRIME?" I bet if it were your average citizen, it would fit the criteria! What do you think Mr. Ackal? When will we hear more about this incident? "

Even though the deputies were off-duty, this does not excuse their actions! If a citizen did this they would BE IN JAIL!!!!!! Well, Ackal, WHAT"S THE STORY?????????? " "

" Once again, the bad apples in the N.I. police dept. (through all odds) has shown its corruption, lack of integrity, and capacity to inflict harm on the very citizens it is sworn to protect. As I recall, these are the same people who kicked in the door of a respect principal (Mr. Sias) and arrested him on bogus charges, and watched as many people participated in the assassination of his character. One lead officer in Mr. Sias' arrest quietly dismissed, the second participating officer in jail for thievin' . INCREDIBLE!!! "

" Let's see if I get this right! He was arrested since October 30, 2008 and we are just reading about it on November 6, 2008. I calculate 8 days before the press release came out! The Lafayette news paper was much more informed then the Iberian since they note that he's since posted bond and the DI states "It was not immediately clear if Tauzin had met the $10,000 bond". Can't the LOCAL news paper be as efficient as the Lafayette paper? I bet the DI would have preferred not to print the story @all. "
