An Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office narcotics officer has been arrested and charged with multiple counts of burglary, Sheriff Louis Ackal said Wednesday.

Jerrel A. Tauzin, 32, 1341 Twenty Arpent Road, was arrested last week after a criminal investigation found he was linked to “multiple burglaries,” Ackal said.

Ackal said Tauzin is no longer on the force and that the stolen items have been recovered.

Many details of the investigation and the extent of the burglaries remained unclear as of this morning. Ackal said Tauzin targeted “people he knew really well” and was involved in at least one burglary in Lafayette, as well.

A spokesman for the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office did not immediately return a phone call this morning.

It was not immediately clear whether Tauzin had met his $10,000 bond or if he remained in Iberia Parish Correctional Center, where he was booked Oct. 30.

In one burglary, Tauzin is charged with breaking into a residence on General Middleton Street and stealing a .40-caliber pistol along with three 9mm magazines, two Pelican flashlights worth about $50 each, a 4-wheel-drive radio-controlled Revo 33 truck and an estimated $1,000 in accessories for the truck and red duffel bag, according to police records.

More details are expected to be made public today.
