More fun than fund Bill Smith The Daily Iberian For parent volunteers, the Epiphany Day School Parent’s Club annual Pumpkin Patch is more about fun for students and parents than it is for the money raised for the school. Monique DeCourt, president of the EDS Parent’s Club, said the long-standing tradition is a three-day affair at which each class designed and decorated their own pumpkin. A silent auction is held with a 3 p.m. deadline today for parents to bid on the exquisitely decorated gourds. “The bidding gets pretty serious,” DeCourt joked. In addition, three local artists — Freddie DeCourt, Mandy Viator and Martha Gilfoil — donated decorated pumpkins to the event. The students get to comb through the pumpkin patch that offered nearly 450 pumpkins of different varieties and select just the right one to take home. DeCourt said parents were also able to pre-order painted pumpkins for their holiday decor. |
