Tuten, a general surgeon from South Carolina, recently joined Dauterive Surgical Physicians, a general surgery practice founded by Dr. “Ned” Dauterive in the late 1980s on the Dauterive Hospital campus. Together, the pair offers vascular, breast, laparoscopic, femoral bypass, aortic bypass, dialysis graft insertions and other surgical procedures.
Dauterive is the son of the late Dr. Weeks Dauterive, a general surgeon, and the grandson of the late Dr. Henry Dauterive, who founded Dauterive Hospital in 1920.

“High quality, cost effective medical care is available right here in Iberia Parish provided by your home town doctors and nurses,” Tuten said. “There is no need to drive to Lafayette, Baton Rouge, New Orleans or even farther.”
Dauterive is pleased with the “high-caliber” addition to his long-standing New Iberia general surgery practice.
“It’s not every day you come across a high caliber general surgeon with Dr. Tuten’s experience, wisdom and ability,” Dauterive said. “He is a welcome addition to the practice and a personable physician I am sure many Iberia Parish residents will make a lasting connection with soon after meeting him.”
Dauterive Hospital stands on a lasting history of healing established by the late Dr. Henry Dauterive, who instilled a commitment to providing high quality, cost effective healthcare in Iberia Parish that still guides the 103-bed facility to this day, said Alan Fabian, FACHE, Dauterive Hospital Chief Executive Officer.
“Dauterive Hospital is proud to be associated with physicians like Dr. Lane Tuten, physicians who have a heart to serve the community and provide its residents with the right care, right here at home,” Fabian said.
The excitement and intricacy of general surgery attracted Tuten to the profession at age 11, when he said he started “scrubbing in.”
“I love the aggressive nature of the profession and the ability to make rapid interventions in a medical problem,” said Tuten, a seasoned professional at laparoscopy, abdominal, head, neck, breast and other surgeries.
Tuten spent 13 years in the U.S. Army. Part of his time included a five-month stint in Iraq in the 1990s during Operation: Desert Storm.
“It was just like TV,” said Tuten, who earned the rank of major before he left the U.S. Army shortly after returning to the United States. “We set up a M.A.S.H. unit. There were helicopters flying in day and night.”
