Stephen G. Barber

Arnaudville — Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2008, 1 p.m. in Melancon Funeral Home in Arnaudville for Stephen Gerald Barber, 64, who passed away Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008, in Abbeville.   

Interment will be in St. Francis Regis Cemetery in Arnaudville. The Rev. Carl Cormier, pastor of Victory Family Worship Center in Scott, will officiate at the services.

Stephen was a native of Gastonia, NC and was a former resident of New Iberia for over 20 years having resided in Arnaudville for the past five years. He was a machinist for over 33 years and had been employed at University Medical Center until his retirement. Stephen was a veteran of the military having served in the US Navy during the Vietnam Era and was a member of the V.F.W. Post of Arnaudville. He was a veteran biker and was active in fundraisers with other bikers; he loved his bike.

Survivors include his wife, Cynthia Stelly Barber of Arnaudville; one daughter, Theresa Barber Seneca and her husband, Eric, of New Iberia; one son, Stephen James Barber and his wife, Kelly, of Breaux Bridge; one step-son, Jonathan Paul Elkins of Arnaudville; three grandchildren, Shealy Barber, Macy Barber and Taylor Barber; two step-grandchildren, Taylor Sturgis and Cameron Seaton; and two brothers, Phillip Barber and his wife, Martha, of Gastonia, NC and Rodney Barber and his wife, Barbara, of Bessemer City, NC.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion James Barber and his mother, the former Mary Sue Fisher both natives of Gastonia, NC; and one step-brother, Tim Brasswell.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 3 p.m. until 10 p.m. Tuesday and will continue from 8 a.m. until service time on Wednesday.
