Why is the Daily Iberian so biased against LSU in favor of UL?

Everytime I come home from Baton Rouge and pick up the Daily Iberian I get slightly angry. In the sports section LSU is always overshadowed by UL. If LSU won a football game the paper would read something similar to LSU barely wins; on the other hand if UL loses (which seems to always be the case) the paper would read: UL is almost  victorious!  Why does this happen? Can't UL fans be happy for LSU versus just being jealous?

" I go to UL and both of my parents went to LSU.I watch both teams play when I can and I hope they both win.Why cant we just be happy that Louisiana is finally noticed nationally for something good like winning football games.Instead of the usual 48th place in education, highest incarceration rates, and 47th for most polluted air.The only 1st places we used to get were things like 1st place for the amount of welfare recipients and 1st place for having the highest murder rate. Now LSU has won 1st 2 times in 5 years, just be happy it is something for once. " I never said that UL wasn't an outstanding university. I simply meant that LSU programs have excelled in the national ranks, so I don't understand why so many people bash such a wonderful university because they are the "red headed stepchild" (not my words, a UL grad's words to be exact)....we are both Louisiana universities, we should be proud of the accomplishments of both schools - I find it hysterical that because someone didn't attend LSU, they aren't supposed to cheer for them or be happy for it's success? - - PS - I'm a girl :) "

" Hey Geaux Tiger Boy, you MIGHT want to check out the recognition that the UL College of Nursing and College of Engineering rank nationally (ABOVE lsu). The BI Moody College of Business was rank as one of the top rising business schools by Princeton University (Attracting professors from the likes of Oxford). So before you go bragging about something you know very little about, check your facts. I don't hate, nor am i jealous, of LSU. I just prefer to support MY university. GO UL!! "

" GEAUX TIGERS! (you know - that flagship university down I-10....Tier One university, nationally recognized not only for sports, but academics as well (heard of EJ Ourso Business School?) - - We have MANY reasons to be proud of LSU - whether we graduated from there or not....the university is bringing pride and money into our state and all some care about is how poor UL doesn't get front page coverage - - here's a thought - EARN IT! "

" Well said Wanna be"s. Everyone is fascianted with LSU, and most of the people never attended. I guess its just the wagon to be on. Very back country!!! If LSU gave half of the money to the academics, professors, etc that actually WORK there, they'd be better off. Instead, ALL of the money brought in buy ticket sales, merchandise etc, get wasted on stupid things, LIKE MORE FOOTBALL STUFF FOR YOUR YARD!!! "

Reaux wrote on Oct 20, 2008 3:07 PM:

" Waste, what's more important than arguing about sporting opinions? ...miserable roads, bottom of the nation in education, the pitifully inadequate health care system, the economically destructive tax system, the disgusting welfare state, the inept and corrupt political arena, the obvious loss of top university graduates to neighboring states, the loss of protective coastal marshland, the obvious bias of federal government and media when it comes to states which are considered "fly over". ...nah, let's talk about something that we can have an effect on. If you graduate from UL, SPEND YOUR MONEY THERE INSTEAD OF PURPLE JUNK ACROSS THE BAYOU. "

Everyone jumps on the LSU Bandwagon just b/c their friends are there. I know plenty of people who never attended LSU and who actually did attend USL/UL..and they don't support their university. How sad is that! "

" I, for one, have seen enough of LSU to last a lifetime. All these big "fans" who didn't even attend the school is so stupid. All the LSU yard trash and car ornaments make us look back-woods. Do you think LSU actually cares if you're obsessed with them? They're laughing all the way to the bank. UL needs to be supported, even though they're not the greatest because it is the alma mater of so many of us. Yes, I graduated from USL and proud of it. USL pays my bills. I'm not giving my money to Baton Rouge. "
