Work Release Program

What a shame that someone or group of people would house criminals next to an elementary school!! Once again the safety of our youth is at stake.  Does anyone know who we as parents can speak to about preventing this from happening???  Or is it too late????  Where is the school board member of Dist. 10? Seems as though nothing is being done to address this serious concern for the students, faculty and staff of the new Caneview Elementary School. (Grand Marias and Peebles Elem.)  Can someone please help with this??

Mr. Ackal & officials did a superb job at making everyone feel really relieved for the situation at hand.
I know every prisoner needs a chance to get back out to have a productive life but I don't want it near my children or my home.
Unless you have children at this school you don't know how it feels!

egardless, Sheriff Ackal did (as usual) the right thing by blocking the move. At least he listened to the concerns as unfounded as they might have been. "

Does the stupidity of criminal seep through the walls and into your children's brains? No, this is a matter of feeling better about the matter. Again please tell me the last time someone successfully escaped from the work release center by IPJ? If these guys are going to break out, they will leave their job, not try to run from the facility. They can just run one day while at work,no guards to stop them. "

Then they are released and quit, without giving a notice, making it harder for the next inmate you try to get employeed. Quit for what - to come back to jail. Insane just Insane. Work Release is good in theory but the inmates need to be taught some other life skills - Teach them to fish not hand it out to them. "

Also, just because this concerns a public school does not mean that parents should not have a say so in their children's education. Yes, the work release may not be the best thing, but of all of the things that COULD be placed in the vicinity of the school, it would certainly be the most regulated and controlled. The school may be there first, but for a location for a school, it is really an exceptionally bad location. Parents should be concerned about that, too. "

" The people who are on work release will be getting out of jail within a year or so anyway so why make a big deal on where they house them? "

" Criminals are not criminals for the rest of their lives. You probably know a former inmate or two and come in contact with them often and don't even know it. The inmates who go into work release programs are already in the community working, they only go back to the facility after work hours. These are also non-violent offenders, your children and the school are under no threat. If these were rapists, murderers, child molesters, etc.. there is no way they would be in a work release program. It'll be fine. "
