Virginia “Jennie” Chamberlain

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25, 2008, at Interfaith Fellowship Church in New Iberia for Virginia Gay “Jennie” Hanson Chamberlain, 73, who passed away peacefully on Friday, Oct. 10, 2008, at her residence.

Reverend Ryan DeRouen, Pastor of Interfaith Fellowship Church, will conduct the memorial services.

Jennie was born on Aug. 2, 1935, in Port Arthur, Texas to William C. Hanson of  Sabine Pass, Texas and the former Ettie Yoakum of Grand Chennier. She was the youngest of four children.  She was a resident of Nederland, Texas until moving with her husband and children to New Iberia in 1968. She married her high school sweetheart, Doyle, in 1952, and together they raised five children.  She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, as well as an artist, avid gardener and great cook.  She also had a special love for animals, especially her cat, Skeeter.  She will be greatly missed by all family and friends who knew her well and loved her.

She is survived by husband of  56 years Norman Doyle Chamberlain; three daughters, Gina Ferstel and her husband, Jack, Gerie Stelly and her husband, Pat and Linda Douglas and her husband, Lane; two sons, Larry Chamberlain and Richard Chamberlain and his wife, Marcia Makee; 15 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and a host of dear nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her step-father, John Henry Hanson; one brother, William Hanson Jr.; and two sisters, Rosemary H. Plummer and Johnnie H. Sportsman.

The family will receive friends on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of service.
