A one-vehicle accident sent at least two adults and an infant to the hospital and left their SUV overturned on the grounds of Jeanerette High School Saturday morning.

Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Wendell Raborn said Kendrick James, Alicia Gage and her 11-month-old infant son were headed west on Louisiana 182 around 9:30 a.m. when their vehicle overturned, smashed through a fence at Jeanerette High School and came to rest on school grounds.

All occupants were taken to an area hospital, and Raborn said the infant was  properly restrained by a car seat in the vehicle and suffered no injuries.

Kevin Gage, the vehicle’s owner, was issued a ticket for allowing an unlicensed person to drive, and James, the driver, was issued a ticket for careless operation, no driver’s license and no insurance, Raborn said.

Fire departments from Jeanerette and B.O.M. responded, as well as the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office and Acadian Ambulance.

Jeanerette Fire Chief Mitch Dubois said the vehicle was not on fire when crews arrived and extrication of the occupants was not required.

“She was stable at the time,” said Angela Gage, Alicia Gage’s aunt, said on the scene at 10:15 a.m. “That’s what we know right now. They would not let us talk to them.”

Skidmarks could be seen in the road leading up to the accident scene.
