LYDIA — A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, 2008, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Lydia, for Robert Jacob Solar, 84, who passed away on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008, in New Orleans.

Entombment will follow in the Holy Family Mausoleum.

Rev. Donovan Labbe will be the Celebrant.

Born on Sept. 17, 1924, in Bayou L’ourse, Mr. Solar is a retired boat captain, having worked 33 years for Kerr McGee and 10 years for Global Industries. He enjoyed woodworking and gardening.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys Solar of New Iberia; son Robert J. Solar Jr. of New Iberia, Richard James Solar and wife, Kerry, of Lydia; daughter Rosalie Ann LaSalle and husband, Clayton, of Ozark, Mo.; brothers Calvin Solar of Rosenburg, Texas, Emile Solar of Berwick; sisters Vina Glynn of Placquemine, Lena Breaux of Patterson, Leona Davis of Morgan City, Flavia Lodrigue of Berwick, Evelyn Duval of Berwick; grandchildren Alesia Mestayer, Tiler Mire, Chance LaSalle; stepgrandchildren Bobby Bourque Jr., Edward Bourque, Sadie Bourque; great-grandchild, Annabelle Mire.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Emile and Pauline Solar; and a sister Elizabeth Stansbury.

A gathering of family and friends will be Wednesday from 6 until 9 p.m. at Pellerin Funeral Home, 502 Jefferson Terrace Blvd, in New Iberia. A rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m.Wednesday.

Visitation will continue Thursday from 8 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.
