Fans may nominate, vote for Players of the Week

Published/Last Modified on Friday, October 3, 2008 2:02 PM CDT

The Daily Iberian is asking fans of local high school football to take part in its weekly Player of the Week program by nominating players they feel deserve recognition for their efforts in the previous week's games, then voting in a weekly Internet poll on The Daily Iberian’s Web site, www.iberianet.com.

Fans may nominate players for this week's games (Oct. 2-3) by posting their nomination, and the reasons (and/or statistics) why the player was nominated, as a comment at the end of this article.

The Daily Iberian sports staff will then select offensive players and defensive players from those nominees to be listed in the poll, which will be posted on the sports page of the Iberian Web site, www.iberianet.com/sports. Fans may vote for their choices beginning Monday at 2 p.m. and ending at 2 p.m. Thursday, when the week’s polls close and votes are tallied.

The offensive player and the defensive player who receive the most votes in the poll will be chosen as Fan Vote Players of the Week.

The Daily Iberian also awards separate Player of the Week honors for an offensive and defensive player as chosen by the newspaper’s sports staff. Player of the Week award winners receive a T-shirt sponsored by The Daily Iberian and Streva Distributing.

" I know this past week there were several great individual performances. The two best performances on defense were John Copes (NISH beat Comeaux 24 to 21) and Melvin Willis (Franklin beat Catholic 28 to 26). They were vital to their huge team victories. On offense, I have a Benci Watkins and Jordy Joseph (NISH beat Comeaux 24 to 21) as the offensive players of the week. Jordy's leadership was vital to the victory as well as the kick. "
