NISH, Hanson do well at Sargent

LAFAYETTE -- New Iberia Senior High, behind top 10 finishers Kevin Simon and David Bonneval, scored 137 points to finish fourth in Catholic High’s annual Sargent Memorial Cross Country meet Saturday.

Choudrant High won the meet with 26 points, Beau Chene and was second with 82 points.

ESA finished ninth (279) and Hanson was 10th (281).

Simon and Bonneval each traveled the three mile course in 18 minutes, 4 seconds to finish eighth and ninth. Logan Lewis finished 29th in 19:03.

Hanson’s top runner, senior Taylor Simoneaux, was second in 17:32. John Grupe of Choudrant won the boys event in 17:17.

Delcambre’s Brock Moreaux was 27th in 19:03.

A total of 29 schools and 174 runners competed in the boys’ event.

In the girls’ meet, Hanson finished fifth with 156 points and Delcambre was sixth with 168. St. Thomas More won the meet with 53 points

Erath’s Lauren Lange placed second with a time of 10:59 behind only STM’s Danielle Murphy, who ran the course in 19:46.

Hanson’s Bailey Coleman was fourth (20:37) and teammate Courtney Frederick finished ninth (21:20).

ESA’s Lucie Pyle was fifth (20:39) and Heidi Guillory was 17th (22:33). NISH’s top runner was Jolee Bonneval, who was 12th (21:48) while Kristie Mouton was 25th (23:39).

Delcambre’s Alli Dunbar was 23rd (23:27) and Tailor Broussard was 30th (23:46).

A total of 24 schools and 107 runners competed in the girls’ event.

In the boys’ junior high event, Hanson’s Austin Luke won the individual title with a time of 12:49 over a two mile course.

Catholic High’s ‘A’ team, paced by Christian Jaubert (9th, 15:03) and Gage Bergeron (10th, 15:07) won the team title. ESA finished second, Cathedral Carmel was third, Mire Middle was fourth and Catholic High’s ‘B’ team, led by Nick Talley (6th, 14:47) was fifth.

In the girls’ junior high race, Hanson won the meet, followed by Academy of the Sacred Heart, Cathedral Carmel, ESA and Fatima.

ASH’s Kathleen Boulet won the race in 14:19. Hanson’s Evelyn Pontiff (14:48) was fourth, Allison Junca (15:23) was fifth, Connor Judice (15:41) was sixth, Carely Fitzgerald (15:45) was seventh and Emily Chauvin (16:03) was 10th.
