The fourth week of the prep season has one Teche Area team opening district play with several others finishing up non-district play with the start of district competition looming.

St. Martinville at Northside

The Tigers (1-1) open District 5-4A play on the road at Northside (1-1). The Tigers came close last week, having possession of the ball in Westgate territory late in the fourth quarter, but couldn’t keep the drive alive and fell 26-19, despite rushing for more than 300 yards in the game.

Dionta Spencer (3) of Westgate tries to elude St. Martinville defenders Josh Fontenette (40), Taylor Charles (32), DeQuincy Lewis (52) and Isaac Johnson (74) last week in St. Martinville. Through two games, SMSH has rushed for 570 yards this year behind its three headed attack of Lance Charles, Brandon Jacob and Bryson Mallery.

Northside enters the game off of a 35-7 blowout win over New Iberia Senior High.

New Iberia at West St. Mary

The Jackets (0-2) and the Wolfpack (0-2) are still looking for the first win of the year. Through the first two games, NISH has been outscored 80-28 and WSM has been outscored 50-16.

The game pits West St. Mary’s ground attack, led by Jerwone Kiel, against NISH’s passing attack, led by sophomore quarterback Jordy Joseph.

Jeanerette at Northwest

So far this year, Jeanerette High is the only school that has managed to play three games in the first three weeks of the season. In the first two weeks of the season, games were played on Monday night and last week, the Tigers (1-2) played tough but fell to Rayne 27-20, four days after beating West St. Mary 20-7.

The Tigers will try to get back in to the win column when the team travels to Prairie Rhonde to face the Raiders (1-1) who were swamped by South Plaquemines 39-12 last week.

Rayne at Erath

The Erath Bobcats (2-0), one of only two undefeated teams in the Teche Area, along with Westgate, put their perfect record on the line Friday night when the team plays host to Rayne, fresh off its 27-20 win over Jeanerette last week.

Erath won a very tough game last week after going through flooding from Hurricane Ike with a 7-6 win over E.D. White.

Hanson at De LaSalle

The Hanson Tigers (0-2) take their second trip to the New Orleans area in three weeks as the team plays De LaSalle (0-2).

HMS lost at Riverside 27-0 in week two after having its game with Ascension Catholic canceled because of Gustav. The Tigers went to Lake Charles last week and lost 41-12 to Hamilton Christian.

De LaSalle dropped a 10-7 decision to Pope John Paul last week.
