WHS drops decision to Northside ladies

LAFAYETTE -- The Westgate Lady Tigers couldn’t maintain the momentum of a Tuesday volleyball sweep of St. Martinville and dropped a 3-1 (25-19, 20-25, 25-20, 25-13) decision to Northside Thursday.

Lucinda Douglas led the Lady Tiger with five aces, 12 kills, five blocks and seven digs. Nina Khanhthong added six kills, 11 digs, a block and an assist; Senica Jones had three kills, one block and an ace; Jacy Walker finished with 16 assists and three digs; Danice Calvert had 11 digs, one kill and one block; Whitney Touchet had five digs, one ace and one assist; and Brittani Stevens had three digs.

Westgate (1-3) will play in the Morgan City Tournament this weekend.

Cecilia 3, St. Martinville 0

ST. MARTINVILLE -- Payton Mitchell had eight kills and three blocks as Cecilia beat St. Martin Parish rival St. Martinville Senior High 3-0 (25-15, 25-13, 25-13) Thursday in a non-district match.

Chelsea James led SMSH with four kills; Kayla Trahan added three kills; Whitney Durand also had three kills to go with three assists, two digs and a block and Kelbie Celestine had a kill and seven assists.

SMSH will play in the Morgan City Tournament this weekend.

St. Joseph’s 3, ESA 2

BATON ROUGE -- Blair Foster had 10 kills, four digs and an ace but ESA fell to St. Joseph’s Academy in five volleyball games Wednesday 3-2 (21-25, 25-17, 25-21, 21-25, 15-11).

The loss was the first for the Lady Falcons this season.

Taylor Hill added 16 kills, seven digs and four blocks for ESA.

Alice Poppa had a kill, 12 digs and 29 assists; Kelly Gamble chipped in 30 digs; Adrienne Brown had three kills, 27 digs and four blocks; and Ashley Broussard had two kills, 12 digs and an ace.

ESA (3-1) returns to Baton Rouge to play in St. Joseph’s Tournament this weekend.
