A New Iberia woman is in jail, accused of stabbing two people, one in the head, on the city’s west side, according to the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Shawntell Moses, 18, of 604 Louise St., is charged with one count of attempted second-degree murder in connection with the Saturday morning incident.

“At 3:23 a.m. deputies responded to a fight in the 1600 block of Hopkins Street,” Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Wendell Raborn said. “When deputies arrived they learned there had been an altercation in which Moses had apparently stabbed two victims.”

Raborn said no motive for the stabbing attack has been determined.

“According to witnesses, Moses was in a vehicle traveling on Hopkins Street and, when the vehicle stopped, she exited the vehicle and attacked the victims,” Raborn said. “Deputies located both victims and found one female with a stab wound to the head and upper torso and the other female victim had a stab wound to the hand.”

Raborn said although Moses is facing only one charge, additional charges may be brought against her because there was more than one victim.

Acadian Ambulance Service responded to the scene and took both victims to the Iberia Medical Center where they were treated and later released.

Moses was arrested without incident at her home on Louise Street. She remains in the Iberia Parish Correctional Center on a $100,000 bond.

" This is a social system that tends to poison or abandon the frail tree rather than analyze its illness and restore its condition. What happens when this tree regains root in society or in fact reproduces of the likeness to its social inclination? Locking someone up is only a reaction that alone solves nothing. Loog at idividuals as they exist and make treatment the priority not encouragement of ignorance and repitition. "

I know IPSO will do a complete investigation about what has happened. I also hope they do a complete psychological background check on her! From family, friends, school(s), etc.
They NEED to find out if she fits into the 8% "rule"! If she does, the D-A should REALLY look into protecting the community! If she has been in as much trouble as some here say, she may be a candidate for a new, more permanent home{the Big House, the Barred Hotel, whichever}! "

Come on now, how many times have we done something out of anger but when it's done it's done. I'm pretty sure they tried to jump her, and she retaliated the wrong way. this girl does not belong in jail, as a matter of fact I've never knoen her to even get in trouble. "

Wonder who's taking care of this "child's" baby while she's out so late? "

" All of you who are trying to defend this girl. At 18, 3 o'clock in the morning, she should have been home in bed. Would any of you like to be stabbed in the head or any where else on your body by someone?? You break the law you suffer the consequences for it. Oh, but wait, she's innocent even though she did it. I say lock her a-s up and let her do her time!! Enough said!! "

" This is not about crack or prostitution...this is a clear case of a fight between children (young with that) whom had problems with each other and one person decided to take it to another level. You will never know exactly what happend unless you get both sides of the story. Then again what in the world is these kids doing out at 3 in the morning....Jesus take the wheel...What is this world coming too? "

" The justice system has always been screwed up. I see drug dealers go to jail longer than someone who raped a child. I see drunk drivers get a slap on the wrist (only) for taking lives. These girls probably had a fight (they jumped her)and she went about it the wrong way. Look the bottom line is the bail amount is ridiculous I understand what she did but look at all the other cases out there that should have high bonds and they don't. Louisiana needs to be reformed in many ways. "

I hope that people will not judge based on what they hear but pray for all those involved. I was young at one time and I was raised in a very good home but that did not stop me from doing bad things and getting in trouble. She is only 18 and I am sure there is more to the story you all have not heard yet. "
