The Iberia Parish and St. Martin Parish school boards rescheduled their regular meetings for Wednesday night after Hurricane Gustav prompted both boards to cancel meetings last week.

The St. Martin Parish School Board will vote on a general and special fund budget that provides for 16 new teacher salaries and an additional $1 million in textbooks.

More than $900,000 is allotted to fuel expenses in the proposed budget, nearly three times the amount the board spent on fuel three years ago, said St. Martin Schools Superintendent Richard Lavergne.

Additionally, the board plans to discuss millage rates for the 2008 tax year, which Lavergne said likely would remain about the same.

A renewal of Lavergne’s contract, which doesn’t expire until next summer,  will be another topic of discussion.

Iberia Parish Superinten-dent Dale Henderson said Wednesday’s meeting would feature a combination of two agendas, including the one from the canceled meeting last week.

In addition to considering several progress payments for new schools, the board is looking to pass a resolution supporting Suicide Prevention Week, an awareness program to take place in Iberia Parish schools beginning next week.
