In another sign of life that the Teche Area is returning to normal after Hurricane Gustav, two area technical colleges will resume classes Monday.

Louisiana Technical College officials announced Friday the Teche Area Campus in New Iberia and Evangeline Campus in St. Martinville would reopen Monday after a one-week hiatus.

“We’re still assessing the damage but it’s very minimal,” said Kelli Horn, an LTC spokeswoman.

“We were really very blessed in the entire region.”

Reopening for the Franklin Branch Campus remains up in the air. Officials are scheduled to meet Monday at the Lafourche Campus to discuss reopening for that region, according the college’s Web site.

But Horn said classes at the Franklin campus, which is grouped into the same region as campuses in Lafourche and Morgan City, would be unlikely to resume before Wednes-day.

“They took a pretty heavy hit,” Horn said.

Hurricane Gustav’s landfall, which occurred Monday, came just one week into the LTC semester.

Horn said the time missed would not necessarily have to be made up.
