We Want Something Done!

I, as a citizen of New Iberia, am highly embarrassed to have viewed the tape of  the scene in front of a local social help agency by other residents of New Iberia demanding food stamps and food!  Am I the only one who is appalled by the actions of these people?  While others were cleaning up, shopping to replenish their food and water, these people were standing in front of a CLOSED business demanding food stamps and food.  And better yet, to have it aired to hundreds of thousands of other area residents living the same nightmare called Gustav.  Who do these people think they are and why do they think that they are owed anything?  Am I mistaken or didn't the food stamp office issue food stamps early when they knew that Gustav was heading our way?  If they did issue them early, where are those food stamps at.......why don't they still have some?  When I saw the tape of the "protest", "we want something done",  I could have crawled under a rock when it was announced that this occurred in New Iberia.

NEXT TIME wait until the assistance come to you stop begging and giving white racist people something to complain about!!!!!!!! "

I never seen so many disrespectful, hateful, loud and offensive people in all of my life. Most days it was painful just to go to lunch because I was actually afraid. "

" The laziness in this area is at an all time low. These people have no concept of work and expect everything to be given to them. And with Obama, I'm afraid there will be more of the same. I work hard for the few things I have and am sick of providing for those who just scream for a hand out. "

" To SFB: The exact point of my post was that I did stop to think that these people never learned to fend for themselves AND how they have embarrassed a whole town for the actions of a few! Did anyone see anything so ridiculous coming from any other town, most a lot worse off than ours? By the way, to anyone, just how did the news media get wind of these people protesting in front of a CLOSED business? Things that make you say HHHMMMMM! "

If they were dispersed before the storm, shouldn't these people have waited to shop for food or only buy what was needed?
Give help to the people who actually work, pay taxes, and lost food.
The "welfare-give-mes" already received their share for the month! "

I lost everything in my ice box and I was out of work for a week but I sure wasn't trying to get any freebies. Why weren't the people there trying to help themselves instead of asking for hand-outs?

Come on people---take care of yourself! "

You bottom feeders, nobody feels one bit sorry for you. Get a job. There are help wanted signs all over. Nobody owes you anything. I know people with more reason to have a hand out but has enough guts to provide for themselves. You people are just plain lazy. "

" I feel this is what we can expect to happen whenever something like a hurricane happens. This is called "The Katrina/Rita Mentality". People were given so much then and they think they are entitled to something for just being inconvenienced a bit. I teach and I can't wait to hear how much these people get. Their kids come to school and spill the beans. They have no shame. But they should be ashamed. Public assistance at its best. The sad thing is that the truly needy, like shut-ins, don't get a dime. "

" The mentality of these people do not surprise me. Some of these people are the same people that do not work and rely on the government or OUR TAX DOLLARS to live. I have four family members that lost freezers full of food and not one of them ever mentioned the thought of requesting food stamps. These people need to get a job and do what a responsible citizen should do, save for tough times. No, their way of life is depending on the working class to support them. The take home message, GET A JOB and stop complaining! "

" Honey, 40% of the folks in this town no longer consider themselves responsible for their own existence. It is past time for "Entitlement Reform". “Welfare Reform” was a drop in the bucket of handouts. The solution is real simple. No work, no benefits. Positive Drug Test, no benefits. Got kids so you can’t work? Got a solution for that too. We’ll put them in day care (and maybe teach them something but dependence while you are gone), but you are going to work if you are going to live off taxpayers. "

" I totally agree with you regarding this protest on Bayard St.. Some people never seize to amaze me. From what I saw on that news report, all that were jumpimg, yelling and demanding help appeared to be able bodied people. I say to them, "Get Off Your Butts and Help Yourself!" I know many people need help but this is a total embarrassment. But then, what more can we expect from certain types of individuals. Their actions will not get things moving any faster. That was so pathetic and yes, EMBARRASSING! "

Some expect a handout and dran the programs designed for people who really are in need. Its ashame just this morning I was in a local store as was others who were there to shop and a conversation was started about cleaning supplies being handed out some where in town you would not imagine how many left the store where they were shopping out to run out and get what they could and the talk of foodstamps. continued "

Like Pavlov's dogs; Ring a bell, they come for the food! Change their routine, they will still salivate at the sound of the bell, even though there is NO reward after it's peal.
Apparently, you were the only one "thinking"{LOL}. "
