We Want Something Done!

I, as a citizen of New Iberia, am highly embarrassed to have viewed the tape of the scene in front of a local social help agency by other residents of New Iberia demanding food stamps and food! Am I the only one who is appalled by the actions of these people? While others were cleaning up, shopping to replenish their food and water, these people were standing in front of a CLOSED business demanding food stamps and food. And better yet, to have it aired to hundreds of thousands of other area residents living the same nightmare called Gustav. Who do these people think they are and why do they think that they are owed anything? Am I mistaken or didn't the food stamp office issue food stamps early when they knew that Gustav was heading our way? If they did issue them early, where are those food stamps at.......why don't they still have some? When I saw the tape of the "protest", "we want something done", I could have crawled under a rock when it was announced that this occurred in New Iberia.

funds for other than the reason it was issued(i.e.big screen tv,cars, four wwheelers)it is your duty as a taxpayer to report them. Get names and address and turn them in, have them investigated. "

the am before it hit. I live near Delcambre in New Iberia. We lost food, collected our $100 insurance for the food and moved forward. With that being said, Gustav was all wind and everyone lost so much $ with that storm. We lost $1500 to scrape together. Now I worry as I had to leave my 6 cats alone - I am tired of the hurricanes. We aren't able to get assistance just like 1 time cuz hubby works offshore - no work for him in a long time. That's life "

First most people have never been really hungery. 2nd many do not need the food stamps they just want them and anything else because it is "free".
3rd. This has to do with myself because to give the free stuff the government is taking 33% of my paycheck. My family deserves the money alot more than my neighbor who does not work. "

i have never needed assistance til now, and the bottom line is... if people need help, they need to seek it humbly instead of making trashy ghetto spectacles of themselves. it's rather humiliating for those of us who actually work for a living, then have to stand in line with some of the same people who are acting like inbreeds.
Disgusting. "

I really don't believe that a tape of people in front of a closed business hollering and protesting and aired to thousands of people outside of New Iberia is gossiping. I see that maybe you don't care that people take advantage of our systems again and again! And I would also bet that those people on the tape were not hungry! "

My husband and a few family members evacuated to arkansas, and during the day tuesday, i got a call from a so-called friend asking when our fire department would be giving out free ice, water and mres. I basically told her scince we were almost 400 miles away, i had no idea. Then i was told that she was going to have Fema pay for the little damage to her trailer skirting. Sad huh? "

If they were dispersed before the storm, shouldn't these people have waited to shop for food or only buy what was needed?
Give help to the people who actually work, pay taxes, and lost food.

When something is free, everyone wants MORE! Did you stop to think that these people never learned to fend for themselves? If, all/most of their lives, everything had been handed to them, well that is ALL they know!
Like Pavlov's dogs; Ring a bell, they come for the food! Change their routine, they will still salivate at the sound of the bell, even though there is NO reward after it's peal.
Apparently, you were the only one "thinking"{LOL}. "
