Hebert wins first contest; no Quiz for week

Published/Last Modified on Friday, September 5, 2008 2:12 PM CDT

Seth Hebert won the first weekly contest in the 28th annual Grid Quiz contest sponsored by the New Iberia Recreation Department and The Daily Iberian, beating Tori Hebert, Tim Hoffpauir, Howard Rogers, Philip Streva and Daniel Weisert in a tiebreaker.

Entries for the second weekly contest, set for this weekend’s slate of college football games, will not be tallied or count toward the overall yearly prize because of Hurricane Gustav, NIRD recreation programs coordinator Pat Thibodeaux said. The following week’s entry forms will be in Sunday’s Daily Iberian.

Each of the five contestants who tied for the lead in the first weekly contest correctly picked 18 of 20 games. Seth Hebert had a total of 55 points for his tiebreaker after missing the Louisiana Tech-Mississippi State and UCLA-Tennessee games. The tiebreaker game was LSU-Appalachian State, which LSU won 41-13 (54 total points).
