Iberia Parish Councilwoman Maggie Daniels raised grave concerns this morning about flooding in the West End area, the day after Hurricane Gustav hit the Teche Area.

Daniels, who represents District 1, said West End Park is underwater and there are downed trees on Hopkins Street.

“You don’t know where Armenco Canal begins or where it ends,” she said shortly before 10 a.m.

The water is rising due to torrential rainfall amounts early today, she said. A flash flood warning is in effect for the area, according to the National Weather Service.

She also said about 25 elderly constituents are in their houses, mostly on Washington Street and some on Lombard, Field and Elizabeth streets.

" Why is it that wherever thier is African American it always seem to be devastation like in New Orleans with the levees. Are those that should be protecting the people are only looking out only for people of the other side like the flip side of your hand. If we all knew the bible God has no prospective person and if you represtive the people you shouldn't also. So do whats right or get out and let someone who love everone take your place. Mayor do your job and Ms.Daniel do your job and clean the canel. "

" The entire state is flooded or flooding right now but I guess everyone should drop what they're doing and deal with the west end immediately.

    How short-sighted. "
