MORGAN CITY ” Franklin and West St. Mary both fought hard but came up short in their St. Mary Parish Jamboree football games Friday night at Morgan City’s Tiger Stadium.

WSM fell behind Berwick 14-0 at halftime and rallied to tie the game in the second half, but opted to go for the win after a penalty on the tying point-after kick and ended up losing 14-13.

Franklin got 328 passing yards from quarterback Chase Boykins but missed out on three scoring opportunities inside the 5-yard line, including one interception on what likely was defensive pass interference, in falling to Patterson, 32-14.

After Berwick took its two-touchdown lead at intermission, the Wolfpack scored on a fumble recovery in the end zone in the second half to pull to within 14-7.

With a minute and a half to go, Tyjuandre Tillman ran up the sideline on a quarterback keeper to pull WSM to within 14-13. Carlos Alvarez converted the point-after to tie the score, but Berwick was flagged for being offside and WSM coach Andre Lockley opted to accept the penalty and go for the winning 2-point conversion.

“You know me, I’m a gambler,” said Lockley.

The Panthers stuffed the attempt, preserving their narrow win.

Patterson 32, Franklin 14

Patterson led 19-8 at halftime and tacked on 13 more points in the second half to hold off the Hornets.

Boykins completed 11 of 23 pass attempts with two touchdowns and an interception.

Gerian Lightfoot had five catches for 83 yards, Darius Henry had an 83-yard scoring reception and Earl Charles had a 61-yard scoring reception for Franklin.

But a non-call on a tackled receiver before the pass reached him at Patterson’s 3-yard line snuffed out one drive when the ball was intercepted, said FSH assistant coach Todd Viator, and Franklin failed to score on two more drives inside the 5.
