Charges will not be filed for attempted second degree murder against Cody Meyers of New Iberia, as reported in today’s Daily Iberian.

On Friday, Iberia Parish Sheriff Office Public Information Officer  Wendell Raborn reported that Meyers, of 603 Bank Avenue, was expected to be charged with attempted second degree murder. The charges would have resulted from an altercation Meyers had at his residence with Brenton Robertson of Henderson.

On Saturday, Raborn provided updated information on the case.

“Apparently Cody Meyers and Brenton Robertson were involved in a fight outside the residence,” Raborn said on Saturday. “Meyers went into his house and Robertson forced his way into the house and continued the fight.”

Raborn said that Meyers stabbed Robertson once in the leg inside the residence.

“Investigators did not charge Meyers since it appears he acted in self defense,” Raborn said. “The case will be forwarded to the district attorney's office for charges against Robertson for Aggravated Burglary.”

" This may fall under the "Castle Law"..a man's home is his castle..when Meyers went inside the home, the law says he is safe from intruders. When Robertson followed him inside, he "invaded" Meyers' castle, leaving him to suffer whatever Meyers deemed appropriate in order to protect himself. Even if Meyers had gone inside to get a weapon to "finish the fight, Robertson should have waited outside for Meyers. Then the outcome of this case would have been different. "
