Blue Stream one win away from finals rematch

PLAQUEMINE -- Blue Stream Services battled back from the loser’s bracket Sunday to have a chance for a rematch with Cajun Sting for the Junior American Legion Championship.

Catholic High-based Blue Stream defeated Lakeside 7-0 Sunday and will play the St. Louis Jaxx Monday at 2 p.m. in the loser’s bracket final.

The Jaxx advanced to the final by beating previously unbeaten Cajun Sting 12-10 Sunday afternoon.

While Cajun Sting lost the game, by winning the winner’s bracket final Saturday night with a 4-3 victory over Blue Stream, they were guaranteed a spot in the championship game regardless of Sunday’s outcome.

The New Iberia Senior High-based Sting will play the winner of Blue Stream and Jaxx at 5 p.m. today, setting up the possibility of an all-New Iberia final for the Junior American Legion State Championship.

Both games will be played at Plaquemine High School.

Blue Stream 7, Lakeside 0

Thomas Robin fired a three-hit shutout and Thomas Theriot had two hits, including a two-RBI double, as Blue Stream bounced back from a loss Saturday with a win over Lakeside.

Robin struck out two and walked one in seven innings for Blue Stream in the win.

Kyle Clement also had a two-RBI double for Blue Stream while Miles St. Upery had two hits and Jacob Rogers scored a run in the win.

St. Louis 12, Cajun Sting 10

St. Louis took advantage of five errors to beat Cajun Sting Sunday.

Cameron Landry had two hits and four RBIs for the Jaxx. Jacob Ellis and Anthony Ferrer each had two hits in the win.

Cajun Sting trailed 10-4 in the sixth and scored five runs to cut the lead to 10-9 but couldn’t get any closer as the Jaxx pushed across two runs in the seventh to up the lead to 12-9. The Sting came back with a run in the bottom of the inning.

Bryce Sibille led Cajun Sting with three hits, including two doubles, and three RBIs. Thomas Smith had two hits and three RBIs, Cody Boutte added a double and had an RBI, while Zane Migues and Jim Picheloup each had a single.
