Barbara A. Cormier

A Mass of Christian Burial for Ms. Barbara Ann Cormier, 71, will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Saint Edward Catholic Church with Rev. Msgr. Ronald Broussard, Celebrant.

Interment will be in St. Edward Catholic Church Cemetery, New Iberia.

The family will receive friends on Friday at the funeral home from 5-9:00 p.m. with a wake ritual to begin at 7 p.m., visitation and will resume on Saturday from 7-10:45 a.m. until time of service.

A resident of New Iberia, she passed on Thursday evening July 31, 2008 at 8:59 p.m. at Northeast Methodist Hospital in Live Oak, Texas.

She was a member of Saint Edward Catholic Church; member and past Grand Lady of Our Lady of Victory Court No.63 Knights of Peter Claver Ladies Auxillary; member of Saint Catherine of Sienna Chapter #16, Fourth Degree Ladies of Grace. She was retired from the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office after twenty years of service as a telecommunication officer and South Central Bell Telephone Company. She was also a special grandmother for grandparents day at Redemptionist High School in Baton Rouge.

She leaves in God’s care, one son, Michael Cormier (Cindy Mitchell) of Missouri City, Texas; four brothers, Harvey Cormier, Sr. (Sandra Marie) of New Iberia,  Dr. Nicholas Cormier, Jr. (Patricia) and Adulhakeem “Phillip” Salaam (Annette), all of San Antonio, Texas and Tyrone Cormier (Patricia) of Lafayette; one sister, Mary Irma “Priss” C. Thomas (Maxime) of Baton Rouge; three grandchildren, Hillary Michelle Cormier, Kimberly Michelle Cormier and Kristen Michelle Cormier, all of Missouri City, Texas; one godchild and niece, Karen C. Lightfoot (David, Sr.) of New Iberia; her youngest niece, Joy Marie Thomas of Baton Rouge; and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by: her parents, Nicholas James Cormier, Sr., and Irma Jones Cormier; sister Lillie C. Thompson; maternal grandparents, Felicie and Numa Jones; paternal grandparents, Clementine and Paul Cormier, Sr.

Active Pallbearers: Phillip “Smokey” Boudreaux, Keith Cormier, Nicholas J. Cormier, III, Tyrone Bruce Cormier, Phillip Yusef Salaam, David Lightfoot, Sr.

Honorary Pallbearers: Members of the Knights of Peter Claver Council & Court # 63, members of St. Catherine of Sienna Chapter No.16, Forth Degree Ladies of Grace, Members of the Iberia Parish Sheriff Department, Harvey James Cormier, Sr., Dr. Nicholas D. Cormier, Jr., Tyrone Paul Cormier, Adulhakeem “Phillip” Salaam, Michael Wayne Cormier, Albert Jones, Rufus Cormier, Joseph Cormier

The family has requested and is receiving professional care from Fletcher Funeral Home of New Iberia.
