Freyou on health concerns: ‘I’m just fine’ BY HEATHER MILLER THE DAILY IBERIANIberia Parish President Ernest Freyou said he has recently received a clean bill of health from M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. Rumors that Freyou’s cancer had returned have been circulating around the parish for a few weeks. His check up at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center came two weeks ago. “As of right now, I’m just fine,” Freyou said. “That can change next week or anytime, really, but I thank the Lord that I’m healthy.” Freyou travels to Houston twice a year for a check-up, and has not had any problems since he beat lymphoma in November 2005. He said he was diagnosed in June 2005. “He said he’s healthy and excited to work,” Iberia Parish Council Chairman Bernard Broussard said. “That’s all I needed and wanted to know.” Parish Councilman John Berard said he is relieved the cancer has not returned, adding residents should not circulate those types of rumors. “Many people with cancer contribute fully to the workforce,” Berard said. “Until it would become a problem that affects his work, it shouldn’t be a concern.” |
