ST. MARTINVILLE — A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, July 28, 2008, at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church in St. Martinville, for Arnold Joseph Nelson, 51,  who passed away on Wednesday, July 23, 2008, at his residence.

Entombment was in St. Michael’s Cemetery.

Rev. Ed Degeyter was the Celebrant. Readers were Dalton Boutte, III and Jillian Lemelle.

Born on Dec. 1, 1956, Arnold is the son of James and Yvonne La Salle Nelson. He worked for the City of St. Martinville as a patrol officer and joined in the family business, Nelson and Sons dirt haulers.

Survivors include his mother, Yvonne La Salle Nelson; brothers Hillary Nelson, Christopher Nelson and wife, Tina, and Jeffery Nelson, all of St. Martinville; sisters Brenda Boutte, husband, Dalton Boutte Jr., of Houston, Joanne Rougeaux and Elouise Nelson, both of St. Martinville; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Nelson; maternal grandparents, Louis and Louise La Salle; paternal grandparents, Luma and Nila Nelson; and brother-in-law Ronald Rougeaux.

Honored to serve as pallbearers were Andrew Nelson, Albert Nelson, Dalton J. Boutte, III, Travis Fogleman, Nary Smith and Donald Nelson.

Honorary pallbearers were Craig Olivier, Jesse Kately, Roland La Salle, Dalton J. Boutte Jr., Larry Nelson, Todd D’albor, Alexzander Pratt Jr.and Carl Pratt.

A gathering of family and friends was held Sunday, July 27, 2008, at Pellerin Funeral Home in St. Martinville.
