Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies are seeking a suspect following an armed robbery which took place just after 8 a.m. today at Brother’s Self Service Gas Station in New Iberia.

Over the police scanner, authorities said they are searching for a black male suspect between the ages of 18 and 20, wearing dark shorts. The suspect was reported to have used a mask and have a concealed weapon in his possession.

Several sheriff’s office vehicles converged by 8:25 a.m. at the gas station at 600 W. Admiral Doyle Drive, where they questioned approximately a half dozen people about the incident.

Charles Williams, a customer at Brother’s, said at about 8:10 a.m. the suspect, who he described as being about 5-foot, 8-inches tall and weighing about 150 pounds, entered the store with a gun and demanded money from the cashier.

“He pointed the gun at me and made me get on the floor, then did what he had to do from there,” Williams said.

Public Information Officer Jerry Methvin of the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office said as of 9:10 a.m. no arrests have been made and the incident remained under investigation.
